Director of Information Technology and Cybersecurity
 

The George Mason University College of Education and Human Development seeks a Director of Information Technology and Cybersecurity who can empower individuals to be more productive and efficient by providing them with the technological means to accomplish these objectives. The Director is expected to anticipate and proactively respond to College technology needs, to lead IT projects within the College, to serve on leadership committees as a liaison between the College and the central administration, and to work collaboratively with other academic and administrative units to find solutions to security concerns and business challenges.  

Security-related duties focus on safeguarding systems to ensure that they are secure from impending cyber threats, and creating business continuity plans to ensure that the College can continue mission-critical operations in the event of a disaster. Day-to-day administrative duties include budget management; supervision of server administrators, application programmers, web developers, video-conferencing, and help desk staff; monitoring resources to ensure appropriate configuration, maintenance, and procurement of CEHD software and hardware; and interfacing with third-party vendors to identify opportunities and benefits for the College.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Management, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in cybersecurity issues and protocols
  • Ability to program in C# or PHP, .Net
  • Expertise in web development
  • Background managing Linux and Windows Servers
  • Strong organizational skills and persistent attention to detail
  • Ability to lead and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience working in supervisory and project management roles

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in virtualization technologies and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Saltstack)
  • Security certification (CISSP or GIAC GSLC preferred)
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring technologies and with SIEM (Splunk preferred)
  • Experience in a university setting
  • Significant experience in consequential information technology and cybersecurity assignments
