Friends University is seeking to fill the Director of Infrastructure Technology and Help Desk position in Wichita Kansas.  This position supervises all technical aspects of the Friends University computer system, including the administration of the computer networks, servers, telecommunication systems and all associated equipment.  In addition, this position supervises the Help Desk support system for all employees and student associates.

Responsibilities:

  • Directs and manages administration of the University’s technology infrastructure.  This includes, but is not limited to infrastructure design, server maintenance, backups, problem resolution and installation.  Also provides maintenance, allocations, and planning for future institutional growth.
  • Prepare University objectives and budgets to facilitate the orderly and efficient capture, storage, processing, and dissemination of information, with emphasis on the confidentiality, integrity, and accessibility of the University’s data. Design, implement, and maintain the University’s information security policies and procedures.
  • Establish and implement short and long range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Responsible for training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 
  • Identify emerging information technologies to be assimilated, integrated, and introduced within the university.
  • Researches and investigates new technology to support the university community.

Work hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.  Other IT areas are operational 80+ hours each week, seven days a week. Hours of work will vary to ensure coverage and may include occasional evening and weekend hours

 
 
 
 

Requirements

  • Two years’ experience in network administration and system administration required, five years preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in information technology or computer science, and five years of applicable experience is required.
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects. Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
  • Experience with the operation and administration of the following technologies required:    Network switches, routers, and firewalls – Cisco preferred;  Server virtualization – VMware preferred; SAN technologies – Dell EMC preferred
