Napa Valley College is seeking an individual with demonstrated administrative skills to join an outstanding team of faculty, staff, and administrators to provide high quality programs and services to our district, our community, and most importantly, our students.  Institutional Technology (IT) is committed to delivering high quality technical leadership, resources, and services to students, faculty, and staff in support of the campus mission.  IT offers, coordinates, and manages desktop computing; instructional technologies; enterprise systems; servers; wired and wireless data networks including Internet; infrastructure; and communication & collaboration systems such as electronic mail, voicemail, telephone service, video, and web.

 

The incumbent in this position will be responsible for leadership, administration, and supervision of institutional technology; ensures appropriate security for campus network and information systems; supports administrative and instructional technology needs of the institution.  The incumbent also acts as direct supervisor of Media Services and IT Support and Services.  The position reports to the Vice President, Administrative Services.

 

This is a full-time, 12-months-per-year, classified administrative position.  The salary is appropriate placement on Range 18 of the current Administrative/ Confidential salary schedule.  Initial salary placement is $7,745-$8,539 per month, with future steps to $9,885/month.  Placement on the salary range is commensurate with experience.  The college offers a fringe benefit package including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, employee assistance program, and retirement system membership.  Assignments include 19 paid holidays, 22 vacation days, and 12 days sick leave annually.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Directs the day-to-day operation of the Department of Institutional Technology.

• Administers college-wide infrastructure of network and information systems and applications in support of instructional and administrative computing; engages in internal and external environmental scanning and needs assessments to identify appropriate new technologies; in coordination with the District Technology Committee sets priorities for the institution and plans the expansion of information systems and functions to support Napa Valley College goals through the development of the District Technology Plan.

• Researches new technologies to best meet the needs of the institution; guides the implementation of the District's Technology Plan; responsible for development and review of IT policies and procedures.

• Manages and oversees the design and implementation of IT infrastructure projects including capital projects, renovations, expansions, and new facilities; ensures that design specifications and criteria are met and that all new systems and equipment can interface with existing hardware and systems.

• Initiates and maintains positive relationships with other departments and members of the college community; identifies user needs, estimates required resources to satisfy the needs, prioritizes projects, schedules project work, supervises staff, and out-sources jobs to ensure delivery of high quality products and services; implements processes which address continuous improvement in operational efficiency and user satisfaction.

• Serves as expert technical resource for the district regarding all network and data communications technology; designs network and server configuration and ensures efficient, daily operation of all networks and data communications systems; coordinates all upgrades, testing, diagnostics, and evaluation of networks; provides support to Network Analyst in diagnosing and correcting problems related to network and data communication systems; develops standards and procedures for the support of networking on campus; recommends software and hardware purchases related to network operations and efficiencies.

• Plans, coordinates, and implements security protocols throughout the network; installs and maintains network security monitoring software; ensures that end-users receive training related to network security and prevention of security breaches; educates managers and employees on appropriate use of campus network and computer systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education:

Earned Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.

 

Experience: 

At least four years of recent, full-time experience in any combination of systems analysis, information systems design, information systems development, network administration, or computer applications training.

A minimum of two years of experience in a management and/or supervisory capacity.

Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.

 

Desirable Qualifications

Experience in drafting, negotiating, and managing service-level, agreement-driven services.

Experience with Ellucian Colleague Enterprise Resource Management system.

Experience with development and maintenance of an institution-wide technology plan.

Experience managing an information technology department in a college environment
