POSITION DESCRIPTION

Marin Horizon School seeks an experienced and visionary technology leader and teacher to sustain and build the effective use of technology in support of the educational vision of the school. Located in Mill Valley, California, Marin Horizon is a progressive school with over 300 students in its pre-school through 8th grade classrooms. The curriculum is “Montessori inspired” and features an exceptionally strong inquiry-based science program and has a long commitment to developing every student’s academic tenacity and critical thinking skills. Technology is integrated with other strands of the curriculum, supported by a one-to-one laptop program in grades 4-8. The school seeks a leader who will advance the program, inspire teachers, plan strategically, budget wisely, and work in close collaboration with other key administrators at the school. The Marin Horizon Director of Instructional Technology will maintain a prominent profile with local, regional, and national technology associations.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a leader articulating the exemplary use of technology throughout the school; articulate that vision across constituencies.
  • Clarify the technology department’s seasonal workflow, and assure projects and training are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Collaborate with the academic team, teachers, and librarian in the creation of integrated technology in the curriculum; attend to K-8 standards and scope-and-sequence in technology skills.
  • Collaborate with academic team and Division Heads to plan and oversee technology professional development program for faculty and staff.
  • Consult with administrative colleagues to analyze system needs for management information and functional operations; anticipate future needs and develop strategic plan for effective growth and development of back office school systems (enrollment management, academic records, data storage and dissemination).
  • Teach units of technology to students in grades 6- 8.
  • Manage the technology budget, allocating resources, and leading the acquisition and inventory of hardware and software. Anticipate large capital expenses related to technology.
  • Oversee the activities and work flow of the Director of IT Support and the Database Manager; monitor and lead the productive use of the school’s IT consultant.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Director of Communication to maintain and upgrade the website and any/all parent-facing communications.
  • With tech department colleagues and the school’s IT consultant, design and implement security plans to ensure compliance with all regulations regarding data security, reliability, back-up, and recovery.
  • With the Director of IT Support maintain, service and upgrade all client devices (desktops, laptops, IPads, printers.)
  • Participate in hiring and training process as appropriate
