Organizational Function and Responsibilities:

The Director of IT Infrastructure is responsible for architecture, design, and operation of the network and technology infrastructure for the Madison College District. The ability to focus and function with an enterprise perspective and to advise technical staff, faculty, College management, and students is critical. This position is the subject matter expert for the technology infrastructure of the College and serves as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

This position reports to the Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Essential Duties:

The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive (see position description for more details). Other duties may be required and assigned.

Infrastructure Strategic Vision and Management Planning

  • • Establish a strategic vision for IT infrastructure and services for Madison College.
    • Lead and manage the design, planning, implementation and maintenance of the College’s Technology Infrastructure – Technology Architecture/Design/Roadmap, Technology Governance, Technology Policies & Standards.
    • Develop and maintain current technology/infrastructure refresh plan, technology assets inventory, network capacity, ongoing risk assessment, server and storage capacity.

     

 

Customer Service

  • • Participate in the development of and promote the TS Customer Service Engagement Model.
    • Provide consultation and advice to requesters/customers on emerging issues and developments.
    • Effectively translate Voice of Customer (VoC) into understandable technical specifications.

Team Building, Team Management and Collaboration

  • • Develop team cohesion and collaboration skills within the Infrastructure team.
    • Assist in moving the TS environment towards increased agility, increased iterative and participatory design and increased self-service capabilities for the end-users.
    • Establish collaborative working relationships and increase communication with other units of TS as well as the College at-large.
    • Coach, mentor and develop staff to increase their effectiveness and grow within the organization.

Supervision

  • • Manage a team of 20+ direct-report staff (FTE, LTE, Contractor or Students).
    • Establish plans, direct work duties and make assignments to both Team Leads and line staff.
    • Manage the resource and budget requirements of the Infrastructure Team.

     

     

Infrastructure Architecture, Design, and Operation

  • • Develop and preserve the infrastructure architecture for the District that is sound and flexible for growth.
    • Develop application specific and integrated roadmaps of current capabilities and future opportunities.
    • Install, configure and manage network routers, switches, firewalls, servers, storage arrays, load balancers, uninterruptible power supplies and network analysis tools.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • • Technology architecture frameworks and models, including networking, servers, storage and IT facilities.
    • Infrastructure design and troubleshooting.
    • Infrastructure and security concepts, best practices and procedures, tools and techniques. 
    • System integration technologies.
    • Cloud-based solutions, options and integrations.
    • Troubleshooting and solving complex program issues.

 

Skilled in:

  • • Communicating (orally and in writing) information, data, and opinions to inform, influence, and/or persuade a wide variety of individuals and audiences.
    • Managing timelines and meeting deadlines.
    • Prioritize and work often with competing demands.
    • Systems development and programming.
    • Systems implementation, rollout and deployment
    • Systems analysis and design skills.

 

Ability to:

  • • Effectively safeguard confidential and sensitive information about Madison College people, systems and architecture.
    • Design and architect solutions for the entireMadison College District (System-Wide).
    • Define, implement, document and test system integrations between enterprise level applications.
    • Solve complex problems, defining root causes, improving systems and making establishing preventive measures for the future.
    • Assess risk and develop contingency/mitigation plans.
    • Develop and maintain up to date protocols for disaster recovery and business continuity.
    • Translate complex technical concepts into plain English for management and staff outside of information technology to understand.

 

Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to area of assignment (Computer Sciences, Information Systems, etc.) OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university plus two (2) years (4,000 hours) of related work experience.

2. Ten (10) years of IT infrastructure experience, including, but not limited to networking/WAN/LAN, routing and security, firewall, load balancer configuration and management, wireless management and connectivity, fiber and copper connectivity solutions.

3. Three (3) years of experience in supervising and development of staff.
