Director of The Kirk Library & Educational Technology

Cardigan Mountain School, founded in 1945, is a private boarding and day school for boys, with 210 boys in grades 6-9. Approximately 37% of our student body is international students, with 10% day students and/or sons of faculty. The vast majority of our graduates matriculate to the nation’s finest secondary schools, both in the US and internationally. We seek a Director for the Kirk Library who will be pivotal in its redesign and management of daily library operations.

The Director of the Kirk Library & Educational Technology at Cardigan Mountain School will be a leader in the school community working closely with the school’s Director of Studies and academic department chairs. He/she will promote the integration of literacy, media/technology, research and innovative/creative thinking. He/she will take a leadership role in the redesign of the current library in order to help create a dynamic learning space that will support the school’s mission; promote curiosity, inquiry and a love of reading; and foster a collaborative atmosphere among all community constituents. This person will lead the creation of an academic space that provides students with the opportunity to develop 21^st-century skills including information analysis, synthesis of ideas and information, critical thinking, creativity, and responsible technology use.

Responsibilities

Information Literacy

• Create an environment that fosters the love of reading and research among all students.
• Make information resources available to all students and teachers through a systematically-developed collection within the school and through access to resources outside the school.
• Inform teachers, students, and administrators of new materials, equipment, and services that meet their information needs. 
• Recommend student-level literature to teachers and collaborate with teachers in adding to the school’s literature and reading collection in print and online.

 Instruction and Educational Technology

• Assist classroom teachers in integrating information and research skills into the classroom curriculum and collaborate with teachers in developing resources and inquiry-based units and activities.
• Provide professional development opportunities for the faculty on relevant and emerging topics.
• Identify and communicate best practices in educational technology to assist teachers in supporting and advancing student learning.
• Assist in growing and implementing a digital citizenship curriculum to help students develop attributes that demonstrate responsible use of information and technology.
• Promote the library to the school and greater community and extend the library beyond its four walls to connect with the school community through the school newsletter, social networks, and the library website. 
• Develop and implement a scope and sequence for educational technology and integration into all areas of learning.
• Evaluate the effective use of technology at Cardigan Mountain School.

Management of the Facilities and Collections

• Take a leadership role in re-imagining and redesigning the current library space, both physical and operational, providing strong vision and direction for a dynamic 21^st-century learning space.
• Evaluate the library’s current paper and digital resources.
• Provide access to the library collection and digital resources through the management of an accurate and efficient organization and retrieval system (Follett).
• Manage and maintain loaner laptops, iPads, and Kindle Readers.
