Job Summary:

This position is the principal architect for the delivery of shared information services integral to the college’s network and data operations. Responsible for managing the overall design, operation and support of the college data, voice and video communications systems. Directs, supervises, and coordinates the activities of the networking staff responsible for the operation of local and wide area networks. Maintains secure and reliable networks by developing policy and employing both original and industry standard methods and procedures.

Job Duties:

  • Conceptualizes, develops and manages college network and data services for all institutional purposes.

  • Develops and maintains system and network standards including capacity planning, traffic engineering, reliability and suitability to institutional needs.

  • Oversees the college’s security framework to ensure information security and privacy.

  • Interacts with Information Technology teams to maintain and identify anomalies and/or restore system operational capabilities.

  • Designs, reviews and executes system and configuration backup and disaster recovery plans and procedures.

  • Manages information transport via wired and wireless technology at all college locations.

  • Plans and budgets for server, data, and network requirements.

  • Identifies need for and develops procedures to promote secure and reliable network use in collaboration with the campus community.

  • Ensures business continuity by maintaining documented operating, backup and recovery procedures for all college network information systems.

  • Recruits, hires, supervises, schedules, evaluates performance and mentors professional networking staff.

  • Researches current and emerging network technologies and develops strategic plans for their enterprise application and use.

  • Analyzes networking needs and applies technologies using industry standard project management techniques.

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with vendors and utilizes their expertise to accomplish strategic information technology objectives.

  • Devises IT support strategies, directs team activities and recommends outside contracts for core network and computing support.

  • Writes specifications for bids and contracts for network capital acquisitions.

  • Collaborates with other units to ensure the delivery of services.

  • Maintains a positive, helpful, constructive attitude and work relationship with supervisor, college staff, students, and the community.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree and 4 year(s) of experience

Additional Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and a minimum of four years full-time related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with network and infrastructure technologies required.

Required License and/or Certifications: Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expert abilities in use of personal computing hardware and associated peripherals

  • Expert abilities in use of IT hardware and software, Microsoft applications, Microsoft Systems, Microsoft Servers, and Microsoft Active Directory

  • Proficient in use of industry standard computer system management and analysis tools

  • Ability to facilitate problem-solving among diverse groups with varying needs and priorities, and to communicate well with users, technical staff, and senior management

  • Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills

  • Ability to work on-call and additional hours as required by operational and production work situations.

  • Good writing skills for internal and external communications
