Under direction of the Principal, the Director of Science, Technology, (Pre) Engineering and Math Programming will lead teachers in implementation of curriculum and instructional practices that result in exceptional teaching and student learning and achievement. The Director of STEM Programming is the key individual with responsibility for the continued evaluation, selection and implementation of best practices in curriculum and instruction and works collaboratively with his or her faculty and administration colleagues to achieve success. With the support of the Principal and other administration members, the Director of STEM Programming is also responsible for targeted professional development of teaching professionals at the school.

 

GENERAL DUTIES 

Curriculum & Instruction

  • Ensure appropriate content, materials, documentation, and standards used in school’s curriculum management systems are accurately reflected in scope and sequence, unit plans, and lesson plans
  • Assist Principal and other administration members with curriculum development and implementation
  • Assist teachers in curriculum implementation
  • Ensure curriculum alignment and help facilitate discussions between grade levels/divisions
  • Attend teacher planning times as needed in order to build awareness of curriculum implementation
  • Communicate opportunities for development to faculty
  • Communicate curriculum to parents as needed and answer in-depth questions
  • Analyze test data and make recommendations accordingly
  • Provide guidance/suggestions to teachers concerning creative methods to present content, including challenging teachers to become more proficient in effective instructional methods
  • Personally teach at least two periods of higher level math, science or technology with excellence

 

Other Administration Duties

  • Assist Principal in job descriptions and interviews
  • Assist Principal with lower level discipline issues
  • Assist teachers with instruction and planning
  • Participate in school events such as open house and other special school programs
  • Assist Principal as needed with operational considerations
  • Observe students in the classroom setting to collect data/information

 

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Degree from recognized and accredited university in the field of science, math, engineering or technology; Doctorate preferred
  • At least five years of successful teaching experience; departmental leadership preferred
  • Possession of appropriate teaching or administrative certification
  • Proper English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, vocabulary and composition skills
  • Effective, tactful, and courteous communication skills with students, parents, fellow employees, and other people
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with faculty and staff
  • High level of responsibility and use of good judgment
  • Ability to make and maintain accurate and complete files, records, and reports
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite skills and ability to quickly learn and use technology applications necessary for curriculum development and classroom instruction
  • Ability to communicate effectively to achieve assigned duties
  • Knowledge of secondary curriculum, instruction standards and best practices
  • Ability to lead and function in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment with a mature approach to challenges
  • Passion for quality education and high expectations for all students
  • Ability to both lead and to faithfully follow the leadership of others
