As the 1070 Director of Student Systems you will report to Executive Director, be a part of the Department of Technology and a district leader in overseeing all aspects of the operation, support, and maintenance of the Student Information System (SIS) and other related modules. You will help to lead the Department of Technology’s transformational work to deliver on the promises outlined in both Transform Learning. Transform Lives. as well as our long-term, city-wide North Star, Vision 2025. We want someone who will serve as the lynchpin in the transformation of SFUSD’s fractured student data systems.

 

The 1070 Director of Student Systems will:

  • Develop procedures and direct implementation of permanent student record/transcript preservation, distribution, and retrieval in accordance with Federal and State legislation and Board policy
  • Support the implementation and provide training for school-based administrators, counselors, staff on use of student information systems applications;
  • Supervise support staff who provide training and support for school data clerks
  • Support communication between State Department of Education, local Board, school and other and community members for the purpose of providing requested student information
  • Develop and provide in-service activities and procedural manuals to administrators, teachers regarding reporting procedures for enrollment/attendance, FTE, student records, special education information system applications
  • Assist in providing impact data for long-range planning
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of Federal and State reporting requirements
  • Revise and disseminate departmental procedures and serves as a resource for various planning committees
  • Assist in designing and implementing processes for data retrieval and submission to data warehouse
  • Provide input and assists in developing efficient departmental operating procedures
  • Meet regularly with assigned staff to identify departmental needs and prioritize projects
  • Act as liaison with Department of Special Education, Department of Enrollment and Planning Services, Department of Research, Planning, and Accountability, and Office of Pupil Services, and Student, Families, and Community Support Department
  • Determine upgrade, patch, and modernization schedule to maintain system uptime and usability

Minimum Qualifications

Education
An associate degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in computer science or a closely-related field].

 

Experience
Seven (7) years of experience in system administration, information systems development, maintenance and support, or information technology project management, including two (2) years of supervisory experience 

 

Substitution
Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units / forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in computer science or a closely related field.

 

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university within Education, Business Administration, Management, Public Administration
  • A minimum of 10 years of work experience, with demonstrated prior experience leading teams
  • Experience in urban education
  • Open to occasional evening and weekend work
  • Familiarity with Special Education Information System (SEIS), Synergy SIS, and Illuminate

SFUSD offers a competitive salary of $90,620 - $111,258 annually, commensurate with experience in a similar position.
