We seek a full-time Director of Technology who can start sometime between April and June of 2019. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized, self-directed, flexible, and curious systems thinker with a proven track record of transformational leadership and excellent customer service. They will be both a visionary thinker and a boots-on-the-ground tech specialist and will have the inclination and experience to work in a diverse community focused on issues of equity, inclusion, and social justice. Candidates who have the ability and desire to teach a course (in technology or another discipline) as part of their job are preferable. All candidates should have at least three years of technology experience in a school setting and ideally possess an advanced degree in a relevant field.  
 
Job Summary  The Director of Technology is a creative and experienced professional who directs the school’s overall technology program. This is a full-time leadership position responsible for leading the school’s technology mission and vision.
 
Institutional Leadership
  • Provides strategic and visionary leadership in all areas of technology. 

  • Stays current with and engages in educational technology trends, best practices, and the overall technology landscape.

  • Creates and implements a mission-aligned technology vision that keeps MA current, relevant, and innovative/cutting edge.

  • Ensures ethical utilization of technology resources.

  • Clearly defines the mission of the technology department to ensure all members are unified toward a common goal.

  • Supports school initiatives, especially examining the ways that technology can offer new insights and supports.

  • Keeps multiculturalism, equity, inclusion, and diversity as a priority and lens in all work.

  • Chairs committees and/or ad-hoc taskforces related to the role of Director of Technology.

  • Partners with administration and faculty to develop the protocols, practices, and expectations of technology use on campus. 

  • Represents the department at functions held within and outside the school.

 
Administrative Leadership
  • Manages a technology department that is responsible for all data needs of the School: technology infrastructure, database and website management, information systems, integration of technology in the learning process, technology education, and professional development. 

  • Partners with administrators and staff in school operations and web-based services (e.g. Admission, Advancement, Athletics, Communication, Business and Operations) to assist these departments in employing technology to enhance the school’s web presence and to achieve greater organizational efficiencies.

  • Engages with faculty, staff, and students to extend our responsible and creative use of technology, including leading or organizing professional development and student learning opportunities.

  • Manages a diverse technology team and supports and mentors each member to be a strong leader in their area of focus, including operating with strong technical standards.

  • Manages the technology budget.

  • Oversees the long-term planning and management of computer hardware, software, network infrastructure, servers, and information architecture to support the academic and administrative needs of the school.

  • Works with tech team to review and evaluate tech needs and requests, and to maintain an inventory of purchases and equipment.

  • Reviews and regularly updates technology policies. 

  • Manages various tech-based accounts and recommends updates and changes.

  • Joins the Admin Team for weekly meetings and annual retreats. 

  • Review and implement internal controls where necessary.

  • Models encouragement and compassion through interactions with all members of the community.

  • Models transparency in an effort to foster a culture of collegiality.

  • Creates an environment of shared knowledge and purpose among the technology team and ensures that this is evident in the community.

  • Is an active participant in appropriate personal learning networks, thereby highlighting the activities of the school and staying abreast of the best practices from other thought leaders and institutions.

  • Experience with network administration/security

  • Superior technical expertise with both PC and Apple hardware, with a specifically strong background in Mac (Mac certificates preferable) 

 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree preferred

  • At least three years experience with technology in a school setting (preferably more)

  • Demonstrated administrative experience relating to technology and technology integration

  • Experience and skill with a wide range of hardware, software and cloud resources

  • Experience with web-based course management systems and databases

  • Mac certifications preferred

  • Teaching experience preferred
