North Shore Country Day School, a progressive, academically rigorous, co-ed, JK-12 day school in Winnetka, Illinois, is seeking a Director of Technology to provide innovative leadership for our information technology program. North Shore is eager to consider applications from groups traditionally underrepresented in independent school communities.

The Director of Technology is responsible for providing the vision, leadership, coordination, integration and management of technology systems and services to advance the mission of the School. The Director sets the strategic direction and is personally involved with the practical implementation of educational technology, information technology and data-security initiatives across all areas of school operations.

Reporting to the Director of Finance and the Assistant Head of School, the Director will evaluate and implement technology solutions to support the instructional, administrative, and support areas of school life. He/she will also oversee the school’s technical support staff and educational technology integrators, collaborating closely with this team, other administrators, and academic department heads to support innovative instructional practices amongst the faculty and promote the thoughtful evolution and integration of technology across operational departments.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides vision and leadership for technology across all divisions, curricular areas and departments.

  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of the technology team of Help Desk staff and Educational Technology Integrators and oversees their training and support to help them grow and enhance their contributions to the school.

  • Collaborates with the Director of Finance, Administrative team, and academic department heads to present and implement a cohesive technology approach across all academic and operational areas at North Shore.

  • Collaborates closely with the Assistant Head of School and the Division Heads to coordinate technology hardware, software, and digital development to support technological innovation in classrooms, offices, and departments; implements integrated instructional technology programs school-wide, including a one-to-one iPad program for students and faculty.

  • Sets policy, regulations, system standards, and operating procedures for use of technology by adults and students, including the Acceptable Use Policy and other institutional expectations regarding technology.

  • Manages operations of mission-critical systems and technology platforms, including but not limited to Blackbaud, Canvas, PowerSchool and other applications necessary to the operation of the School.

  • Oversees the delegated responsibility for maintaining and troubleshooting system security, physical and cloud-based site networks/servers, access points and switches, fiber/ethernet/VoIP systems, data storage solutions, and a wired/wireless infrastructure.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master's degree in a field appropriate for this position preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in technology management. Three years or more in a technological leadership and/or innovation role at an educational institution. Experience in the classroom preferred.

  • Strong understanding and technical knowledge in areas of IT security, network components, computer operating systems, protocols and standards, and experience with learning management systems and Google G-Suite.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work well with all levels within an educational organization.
