Brooklyn Heights Montessori School offers a challenging and comprehensive curriculum built on the philosophy of Maria Montessori to children aged two years through eighth grade. Students work and learn in mixed-age classes led by teaching teams of nurturing and well-informed professionals. The students have exposure to a full range of academic and artistic courses. BHMS also offers an after school program and a summer day camp. Job Description: DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY

Start Date: July 2016

Reports to: Head of School

Brief Description: Generally, the Director of Technology is responsible for the overall technology presence at BHMS as it relates to support, infrastructure, classroom and curricula integration, and administration. Working in tandem with the Technology Integrator and Librarian, the Director of Technology's focus is on large-scale initiatives and the long-term vision and strategy for technology used by the School.

12-month position

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technology Support

Oversee the maintenance and repair of all school technology (computers, servers, printers, video cameras, projectors, fax machine, photocopiers, telephones, phone/voice mail system, Motorola walkie-talkies, paging system, lobby display, keyless entry system, etc.);
Delegate the maintenance and repair of all school technology between Director of Technology and Technology Integrator;
Provide technical support to faculty, staff and students on any and all technology-related issues;
Delegate the timely management of support issues between Director of Technology and Technology Integrator;
Assist heavily in the Admissions and Institutional Advancement Offices with their ongoing efforts (contracts, admissions, mass mailings, Veracross, database reporting, Annual Fund, database issues, development, etc.);
Provide pre-planned Professional Development training for Faculty and Staff on a monthly basis;
Provide Audio/Visual support for all-school presentations or functions where it is required, in collaboration with Technology Integrator

Infrastructure

Manage internal computer and phone network (including wireless network) ensuring stability and uptime;
Ensure security of school data with backup procedures including an off-site backup;
Develop, design and maintain Veracross database, which provides a data-working environment for Student and Staff Information Systems, Admissions, Development, and Student Reporting;
Provide backend support for school website maintenance;
Manage a current Inventory of all hardware and software;
Manage contracts and relationships with service & support vendors (Internet service providers, Canon copiers, phones, etc.);
Ongoing review of expenditures, leases and contracts that require attention to ensure we receive the most competitive pricing and are within the legal constraints of our agreements

Vision

Develop and implement a Technology Strategic Plan outlining department missives and long-range goals. This plan should address how Technology affects all aspects of BHMS and should include a rough timeline for future endeavors;
Implement large-scale technology initiatives as they relate to the Technology Strategic Plan. These initiatives should serve to put us ahead of the curve regarding school-wide technology usage and support;
Analyze more effective integration of Technology into the Curriculum. This encompasses hardware and software purchases, professional development, and facilitating easier teacher/student communication (e.g. posting homework online);
Provide ongoing review of the status of all of the tasks in this job description and make recommendations for improvements from year to year

REQUIREMENTS:

Demonstrated ability to:
Set and plan for achievement of strategic goals;
Mentor and supervise tech staff;
Support Google Apps for Education and integrate the suite of tools into the classroom;
Work independently and as part of a team;
Multitask, prioritize, problem solve and meet deadlines;
Communicate clearly and effectively with staff, students, and parents

Knowledge of current trends in technology and educational technology;
Understanding of multiple OS platforms and device form factors;
Commitment to shared leadership in support of the school's diversity mission;
Strong written and oral communication skills;
Investment in continued professional growth;
Significant experience in education and/or technology;
Advanced degree in education and/or technology preferred;
Theater tech knowledge, a plus
