Beauvoir, the National Cathedral Elementary School, located in Washington, D.C. is seeking a Director of Technology to lead the school’s non-academic technology team, collaborate with the director of academic technology, and to help realize the vision of the school which is to provide an extraordinary early childhood education in a diverse community that values every individual. The Director of Technology fills a critical role at the school, leading a team of two and working closely with the Director of Academic Technology to ensure that all technology across the school is in good working order and operates in a manner that allows users to obtain optimal benefit. This includes, but is not limited to making certain that computers, iPads, telephones, printers, and almost everything that plugs in works to maximum capacity, vetting all technology purchases and providing support and training for all constituents. This person will have two direct reports: one systems engineer and one database/information manager. The Director collaborates with members of the Core Tech team to ensure that Beauvoir’s technology integrates across the Close (includes two other schools and the Cathedral).



  1. Create and execute a technology strategy for the school by understanding the needs of faculty, staff, parents, and students (through the Director of Academic Technology.

  2. Manage the daily activities of the Beauvoir information management systems, including all matters relating to the school-wide physical hardware and virtual computing systems, network and wireless infrastructure, database management, backup and disaster recovery strategies, network security, user account and email management, firewall and SPAM filtering, phone system support, printing support, audio and visual multimedia presentation support, and direct user

  3. Image and support all student and adult Apple devices, manage

  4. Lead the implementation of the overall network infrastructure and technology strategy and renew Symantec backups and end point protection within a timeline to be determined with the Head of School and CFOO.

  5. Collaborate with the Director of Academic Technology to facilitate and recommend engaging professional development opportunities and programs to support teachers integrating Apple and other technologies thoughtfully and meaningfully into their

  6. Track all hardware and software needs and support all systems and relationships with technology vendors

  7. Coordinates technology initiatives with other institutions on the Close to advance both school-wide and Close-wide technology interoperability of shared resources and any other technology-related necessities

  8. Participate in all faculty/staff meetings, including Technology Department meetings or other  administrative team meeting assigned by the Head of Contribute to and work within annual and long-term budgets and investment forecasts.

  9. Maintain awareness of best practices, emerging technologies and new potentials in educational technology and information systems.

  10. Respond to email, telephone, or ticketing requests promptly. Prioritize and reschedule tasks to accommodate urgent

  11. Participate in Safety Committee and/or Crisis Task Force

  12. Perform other duties including a weekly lunch with a “buddy” class, assisting with arrival or dismissal, and participating in the school community.



  1. Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent successful field experience in the field of technology in lieu of earned

  2. At least 5 years of technology experience.

  3. Specific skill sets required include expertise on networking and technological

  4. Direct management experience preferred.

  5. If no direct management experience, must have experience managing projects, processes, and/or indirect reports and an interest in leadership.

  6. Experience working within a school or education setting preferred including experience with technologies and resources appropriate for children

  7. Strong written and verbal communication



  1. Knowledge and expertise of both Mac and PC platforms, and systems

  2. Strong writing and editing skills; ability to write and format professional correspondence, memos, and support

  3. Team focused; collaborative and professional manner when dealing with staff, volunteers, parents, students and

  4. A high level of energy and a sense of humor, bringing a desire to problem solve, to create, and to  collaborate with a wide range of groups, including administrative and teaching

  5. Provide leadership and dedication to information initiatives that strengthen Beauvoir’s commitment to inclusion and

Ideal Experience in or willingness to become: ACMT (Apple Certified Mac Technician), CCA (Casper Certified Administrator), MCTS (Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist) and/or MCITP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional, and/or MCDST (Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician), A+ Certification, MCSE 2000 or



  1. Must pass periodic general background checks, FBI background check, child safety screening and, at the discretion of the school, drug and alcohol

  3. Excellent writing and editing skills; ability to write and format professional correspondence, memos, and support

  1. This position requires work outside normal business hours as needed, including evenings and

  2. The position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending and stooping in the performance of daily

  3. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer

  4. The position requires near and far vision for reading and preparing written reports and other

  5. Acute hearing is also required when providing phone

  6. The need to lift, drag, push and pull files, reports and other materials weighing up to 25 pounds is required
