Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Developing and executing a forward-looking technology strategy that aligns with the School's educational mission.
  • Supervising, mentoring, and developing the technology team, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, professional excellence, and innovation.
  • Forging partnerships with teachers and academic leaders to promote strategic and thoughtful deployment of technology into the curriculum in ways that enhance learning outcomes and the student experience.
  • Serving as a thought partner and monitoring emerging trends in AI to anticipate opportunities and risks and guide the school in developing responsible use policies and adopting best practices in educational and business.
  • Providing leadership, vision, and day-to-day management of the IT department, including data network and backup systems, firewall and security issues, databases, servers, printers, and telephone systems.
  • Providing daily support for all school issued computers. 
  • Maintaining secure, efficient, and robust server and network architecture, as well as cost-effective improvements to network and cloud-based applications.
  • Ensuring efficiencies in the collection, analysis, usage, retention, and sharing of academic and administrative information and data.
  • Overseeing the technology budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources for maximum impact.
  • Teaching a semester course in third and fourth grades.
  • Taking an active role in the life of the school and performing other duties as assigned.

Skills, Qualifications, and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field (information technology, computer science, systems management, or related discipline); master’s degree preferred
  • At least five years of experience in educational technology leadership including experience with adopting and implementing an LMS
  • Teaching and working experience in independent schools preferred
  • Innovative and future focused mindset
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple technology projects simultaneously
  • Current and in-depth knowledge of network architecture; telecommunication; wireless, mobile, and cloud technologies
  • Knowledge of administrative and academic database systems including Blackbaud
  • Strong organizational, technical, and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong problem solving skills with a high degree of diplomacy
  • A team-oriented mindset and an interest in working collaboratively with the school community
  • Ability to talk, hear, operate a computer, handheld learning devices and other office equipment and school technology, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Compliance with Sheridan policies/procedures as stated in the Employee Handbook.
  • Regular and punctual attendance during the school day and specifically at assigned classes and activities.
  • Completion of duties, including arrival, morning meeting, lunch, recess, assembly and dismissal, as assigned.
  • Active participation in staff meetings, including division, department, grade-level, etc.
  • Participation in community events outside of regular school hours, including Back to School Night, admission open houses, etc., as assigned.
  • Completion of additional responsibilities in support of the school community, as assigned.
  • Participation in regular goal-setting, reflection and professional growth opportunities.
  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the overall school program.
