The Director of Technology for Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart is responsible for all technological resources used by teachers, students, administration, and staff. Additionally, the Director is responsible for setting and executing the school's Technology Plan, as well as researching and procuring new resources as needed, and also acts as the Network Administrator. Broadly, the duties of the Director fall into four categories: Infrastructure, Support, Instruction, and Mission. As Network Administrator for Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart this individual is primarily responsible for the technology infrastructure of the school, ensuring that all network services and equipment are operational, up-to-date, and secure. While most of the position's duties concern hardware, the Network Administrator will also occasionally be expected to provide Tier 2 and (rarely) 3 IT support for teachers and school administrators. The Director of Technology is also responsible for the deployment of technology resources to students and teachers.

 

 

Infrastructure

 

  • Maintain, service, and upgrade all network hardware (including switches, cabling, servers, wireless access points, doors, cameras)
  • Internal Network Administration, including managing the LDAP user database, SMB shares, DHCP/DNS services, content filtering
  • Monitor network firewall status, updating firewall settings and content filters as needed
  • Serve as webmaster/administrator for pashmoodle.org (hosted locally) and webmaster for princetonacademy.org (hosted remotely)
  • Administer Filemaker Database and other database solutions for the school
  • Administer Business applications (e.g. QuickBooks Enterprise)
  • Maintain iPad App procurements and distributions for teachers and students
  • Monitor access control systems (doors, cameras) as part of the Security Committee
  • Support Building and Grounds staff in the use of building systems (lighting, HVAC, public address)

 

Support

 

  • Provide Tier 1, 2, and sometimes 3 support to teachers, students, and administrators
  • Maintain, service, and upgrade all user devices (school laptops, iPads, printers, projectors, interactive whiteboard systems)
  • Monitor/administer internal IT ticketing system
  • Communicate and assist users regarding important updates, security issues, etc.

Instruction

 

  • Train all faculty on the use of their resources, as well as coordinate workshops to facilitate technology integration projects
  • Collaborate with teachers to better integrate tech into classroom instruction
  • Instruct students on proper use of their devices, in particular the 1:1 iPad Program in the Middle School
  • Provide IT support as needed in classrooms during the school day

Mission

 

  • Keep abreast of new developments in the technology field in general, and educational technology specifically
  • Maintain the Technology Plan, advising the Admin Team on tech policy and future planning
  • Aligning the Technology Plan to the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart schools
  • Maintain Princeton Academy's position as a thought leader in educational technology through experimentation, reflective implementation, and high-quality instruction

 

Skills

 

The Director of Technology must be proficient in the following skillsets:

 

  • Server Administration (Linux, Windows)
  • Network Security
  • Web Development (HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL)
  • Mobile Device Management (iOS)
  • Database Management (FileMaker experience preferred)
  • Multi-platform desktop support
    • Princeton Academy uses primarily Mac and PC computers for teachers and students, as well as iPads and Chromebooks 
  • Project management in a demanding, fast-paced environment
  • Physical Demands: the role often requires lifting weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds.
