Position Summary:
The Director of Technology leads a key function of the school and is responsible for setting a vision for the technology necessary to support the academic and other programs of BC High. The Technology team includes 4 ½ direct reports and 1 indirect report. The Director of Technology is responsible for creating a team to support faculty, staff and students and working across functions to serve the technology needs all departments.
 
The Director of Technology will be responsible for developing a technology strategy for BC High for the next 10 years.
 
Required Qualifications:
BC High’s Director of Technology will lead a key department within the school. A strong candidate will have the ability to engage with both faculty, administrators and staff effectively and to earn the respect of all the major constituents of the school community. The candidate will also have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and an ability to set a technology strategy which he or she can articulate to a large audience including those without technology experience.
 
Setting a Vision for the Technology Department:
  • Sets a vision for the technology department which starts with supporting BC High’s academic and other student-centered programs. Partners closely with academic leadership to support innovations and other strategic initiatives in the classroom.
  • Leads discussions with academic leadership on how to leverage technology to support advancement in the school’s academic programs.
  • Creates a team to support the technology needs of the academic and other departments of the school.
  • Develops a cohesive plan to evaluate, acquire, install and maintain the information and communications technology software to support instructional and business needs of BC High.
  • Maintains an inventory of software utilitized by the school and develops a strategic plan to ensure the software is integrated and leveraged to best serve the aggregate needs of all school departments.
  • Develops implementation strategies for new hardware and software implementations and upgrades that include timely communication and training with faculty and staff.
 
Core Abilities:
  • Manages the technology team to ensure resources are allocated appropriately and that the team members are developed to meet emerging trends in the industry.
  • Works with appropriate academic and administrative departments to evaluate hardware, software, courseware.
  • Manages technical budgets, allocates resources, and determines appropriate project schedules.
  • Manages the overall acquisition of hardware and software. Maintains accurate inventories. Establishes guidelines for sharing equipment campus-wide.
  • Provides technical support as needed for all website activities.
  • Manages technology contracts with outside vendors, and agencies.
  • Meets and consults with school administrators on the development, maintenance, and effectiveness of data applications; and develops and maintains effective communication and working relationships with administrative divisions and schools.
  • Assures the security and validity of data and information through the development of security procedures. Stays abreast of data privacy issues and regulations ensuring the technology protocols at BC High are compliant.
 
Preferred qualifications and characteristics of the ideal candidate:
 
Knowledge of:
  • Data communications theory, protocols and hardware.
  • Servers and server operating systems.
  • Personal computer hardware and software.
  • Database design and management.
  • Customer service design, organization and operation.
  • Internet and Intranet development standards.
  • Strategic planning and project management.
  • Instructional methods and techniques.
  • Organization, management and control of complex computer equipment and data processing systems.
  • Principles and practices of personnel supervision and training.
  • Principles of budget preparation and administration.
 
Other Qualifications:
 
  • Ability to maintain confidential and positive working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students, school and community organizations, vendors, and the general public.
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment where leadership is shared and opinions of others are valued and respected. Demonstrated ability to perform as part of a high functioning team; preferably in a Catholic, Jesuit school.
  • Professional experience and proven success in coordinating, mentoring, and motivating a staff while holding everyone accountable and helping each grow professionally.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills; organizational and time management skills.
  • Candidates with an advanced degree are preferred (minimum of a bachelor's degree).
  • Minimum 10 years experience, preferably in an educational setting
