Reporting to the Deputy Head, this position will provide the College with both visionary and pragmatic leadership to support the instructional and administrative technologies for Hillfield Strathallan College.  The position also supports College-wide use of technologies to improve accountability, student learning, and the use of data and information for continuous improvement.            

The Director will lead the strategic instructional and infrastructure design processes and the development of appropriate systems throughout the College.  He/she will administer and facilitate technology-rich teaching and learning from Early Education to Grade 12, guide collaborative curricular innovation, including system design and oversight, faculty and staff training and support, and ensure system service, reliability and consistency.  
 

Specifically, the Director will:

  • Lead the development of the vision, strategic plan and budget for the information technology for the College, including identifying and verifying business and academic requirements, and determining appropriate technology solutions and costs.

  • Provide leadership in the development of strategic approaches for the integration of technology into the educational environment at HSC.

  • Provide leadership and innovation for enhancing teaching and learning through the identification, evaluation, adoption, and integration of effective educational innovations into the curriculum.

  • Works collaboratively and effectively with faculty and staff throughout the school to provide pedagogical and technical support to design, develop, and implement instructional content, courses and projects that enrich teaching and learning through the use of technology in online, hybrid and traditional courses, including the integration of student learning outcomes.

  • Provides oversight to the IT Manager, Whole School Connectedness Manager and IT integrators to ensure programs and systems are properly aligned and continually meeting the needs of the College.

  • Ensures administrative and technical support for all instructional technology to improve learning outcomes, facilitate technology-rich teaching, and advance curricular innovation.

  • Formulates and provides a professional development program designed to support faculty in the design, development and delivery of curriculum and instruction. 

  • Develops and maintains a repository of resources to provide information on current best practices, innovations, and emerging trends for faculty, staff and students (e.g. tutorials, interactive programs, websites) to promote sharing of resources.

  • Maintains awareness of best practices, emerging technologies and new potentials in educational technology that may be adopted as new and emerging instructional media, technologies, pedagogies and practices.

  • Maintains appropriate records and data to produce monthly performance reports, annual performance reports, and external reports for the Deputy Head and the rest of the Academic Team.

  • Reviews, maintains and evaluates the overall faculty and operational IT budgets.

  • Overall responsibility for risk management related to IT systems including contingency planning and cyber security.

  • Evaluate the most effective ways of supporting IT systems including the allocation of responsibilities to internal staff (IT Manager, WSC Manager, IT integrators, Learning Commons Staff and College Experts).

  • Supports the mission, guiding principles and ideals as defined in the College’s Strategic Plan.

The successful candidate will be a seasoned educator with a degree in Computer Science or Technology coupled with a Bachelor’s of Education, a minimum of seven years of demonstrated teaching experience, knowledge of the Ontario Curriculum, previous experience in technology leadership, with a deep understanding and proven track record in IT strategy delivery, educational technologies and trends.

Success in this role is dependent on excellent communication, managerial, and problem solving skills with the ability to lead technology staff and faculty using a collaborative and cooperative approach to leadership and management. Familiarity with a Pre-K-12 environment is considered an asset.
