Provides leadership and direction in planning, designing, creating and maintaining the campus web environment. Responsible for the exploration, implementation, testing and maintenance of campus web related technology. Directs solutions to functional and technical problems. Supervises and directs the work of web services staff. Works with DSU leaders to ensure that the campus web presence meets the needs of the campus. Provides strategic direction and leadership for web related project management, customer service processes, and software selection and support.
 

Responsibilities
 
  • Works cooperatively with the university community to develop strategic and tactical plans to facilitate and coordinate the delivery of Web services. Coordinates, develops, and implements project plans to deliver these services. Maintains open communication with other teams and planning committees to assure efficient processes are implemented and to coordinate projects with overlapping responsibilities.

  • Directs, manages and supervises the Campus Webmaster, Web Content Designer, and part-time/student hourly employees.

  • Develops and manages web development and support procedures, tools, and documentation. This includes writing scope documents, managing source code, and developing technical support standards and procedures.

  • Work with campus committees to make sure the university's web site reflects the university's vision, mission and goals.

  • Works with individuals and departments to develop web page(s), adhering to university design standards and brand identity.

  • Responds in a timely manner to questions and requests for assistance; provides professional advice and assistance to faculty and staff regarding the creation or revision of website pages and information.

  • Participates in ongoing research and keeps abreast of constantly changing web design, development, and programming standards.

  • Integrates site analytics into design workflow and monitors and evaluates web traffic.

  • Troubleshoots and resolves website problems in conjunction with other information technology staff.

  • Ensures regular testing of function and links, and updating of time-specific content.

  • Creates and maintains the framework for web page development, i.e. databases, content, organization, and navigational structure.

  • Optimizes university websites for search engines.

  • Serve on related campus committees

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in website design and development, graphic design, or a related field; Master's degree in an design, business, or communication field preferred

  • Five years of experience in the management, design, creation, and implementation of professional websites. At least one year of experience must have been in a management or supervisory role.

  • Demonstrated excellent project management, collaboration, and communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively manage large, complex projects; to communicate technical information both verbally and in writing with non-technical audiences; and to carry out strategic planning activities.

  • Expert knowledge of website development process – from idea concept through implementation

  • Knowledge of various Web Content Management Systems. WordPress knowledge and experience preferred.

  • Strong technical knowledge and demonstrated experience in the following technologies:  HTML, JavaScript (including jQuery), PHP, CSS, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Responsive Design, and W3C web design specifications.

  • Strong graphic creation/editing skills using Adobe Photoshop and related software tools

  • Strong knowledge of cross-browser and cross-platform issues and design constraints of the Web.

  • Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team oriented environment

  • Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with staff, faculty, students and the public.

  • Experience and knowledge of the purposes and structure of a university website

 

Supplemental Information
