Job Summary

Troy University is accepting applications for Director of Educational Technology. This is a full-time professional position. This position is responsible for multimedia and educational technologies, including training and support for the Learning Management Systems, and associated technologies according to the SACSdistance learning principles and best practices for electronically-delivered, or facilitated, courses for Troy University. The Director must have strong interpersonal skills, technical knowledge of LMS software suites, experience in distance education methodologies and instructional design processes, and be an experienced manager. The Director must be able to establish goals, focus a team and be accountable for achieving challenging objectives in regards to large project design and educational technologies. A solid understanding, experience, and academic background in online and videoconferencing instructional course design, LMS resource analysis and coordination, multimedia technologies, distance learning strategies, Canvas System Administrator experience, and current educational technologies is required. The position reports to the Chief Technology Officer. Due to the nature of the duties, the Director is expected to respond to emergent situations outside normal business hours. Minimum Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university in education, Information Systems, or related field required.

  2. Six to eight years of related experience and/or training.

  3. Experience with analyzing higher education technology trends and making recommendations related to online learning systems.

  4. Ability to communicate effectively with University executives, faculty, students, staff, and other stakeholders in person, by telephone, and via electronic media.

  5. Ability to bring creative and innovative solutions to problems and demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and service.

  6. Demonstrated knowledge of online learning practices, and trends relative to students seeking undergraduate and graduate degree completion via online education.

  7. Knowledge of PC systems and a variety of software with demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office Products, learning management systems, statistical software, or comparable software.

  8. Demonstrated ability to think strategically, act operationally, and solve problems related to online learning choosing the best course of action in given circumstances.

  9. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

  10. Skill in both time and project management.

  11. Ability to lead effectively without supervision. Ability to travel frequently, including but not limited to off-campus sites, conferences, and professional development events, etc.; on-call for after-hours efforts, including systems updates and software upgrades.

  12. Demonstrated ability to manage a team of technology resources.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Master’s Degree in Educational Technology, Information Systems or related field from a regionally accredited college or university

  2. Minimum of 5 years of direct leadership and academic experience with an online learning program in a higher education setting.

  3. Experience with online learning regulatory processes.

  4. Ability to understand and where appropriate apply scholarly research of online education programs.

  5. Demonstrated ability to execute a high level of independent judgment and decision-making within the job scope.

Will this position require driving (personal vehicle, university vehicle, utility vehicle, or golf cart) in order to perform the job duties? Driving may be necessary but is not a primary responsibility
