Position Purpose

Under the direction of the Asst. Dir for Educational Technologies, the Educational Technologist will research, implement and administer established and new technology infrastructure for teaching and learning. The focus of this position is on the technical functions of Educational Technologies, while also advancing pedagogically sound best practices. The Educational Technologist will work collaboratively with Instructional Design team and across various IT departments.

Skills & Knowledge

• A strong intrinsic desire to learn new and emerging technologies that apply to education.
• Ability to pick up and learn new systems quickly and efficiently, and be able to communicate their findings to other members of the team.
• Experience using a learning management system.
• Knowledge of instructional design principles and tools.
• Experience with basic HTML, CSS, and XML coding skills, is desired.
• Working ability to navigate and manage systems efficiently and easily.
• Excellent to superb problem solving abilities when dealing with troubleshooting a system or critically evaluating new software .
• Excellent writing ability when expressing complex problems to a nontechnical audience.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to takes initiative, use creativity.
• Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Interest in application of ADA, 508 compliance to educational technology tools.

Minimum Experience

• Three years of professional experience in a field that is directly related to the functions of the position to be filled.
• Experience facilitating integration of technology in an educational environment.

Minimum Education

• Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent.

Key Accountabilities

 

Key Accountabilities

• Performs needs analysis of current systems, researching, making recommendations and individually implementing new tool and Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI).
• Acts as the system administrator for new LTI, as well as the following services: WordPress, Techsmith Relay, Echo 360 and Lecture Tools, TurningPoint, Poll Everywhere, Campus Pack (blog and wiki tool), O365 Canvas integrations, and Lynda.com.
• Creates and maintains knowledgebase for the stack of Educational Technology tools at Dartmouth; both for end-users, and internal documentation.
• Conducts testing on LMS beta and production releases. Creates and executes test plans for new integrations or technology proof of concepts and pilots.
• Serves as the key liaison between Educational Technologies and Classroom Technologies; facilitates knowledge transfer between both teams; provides input into classroom renovations.
• Participates as a consultant for various committees/campus systems projects with an instructional technology component.
• Coordinates LMS user support. Answers support questions and gives instruction on technology issues. Escalates instructional design questions to the ID team as needed.
• Provides one-on-one assistance and consultation to faculty utilizing technology.
