Winchester Thurston School, an innovative Pre-K through grade 12 independent day school in Pittsburgh, seeks an experienced technology professional who can support both operational and educational technology needs. This position requires a knowledgeable and personable individual who will assist and support colleagues and students in using technology in their daily work and learning. The Educational Technologist and Support Professional performs under the general direction of the Head of School and the supervision of the Assistant Head for Operations and Director of eLearning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for technology, providing friendly, courteous support to assist users
  • Train faculty, staff and students in the use of WT hardware, software, and services
  • Document and assess problems as well as determine the appropriate equipment needs and/or system requirements
  • Provide end-user (students, faculty, parents, etc.) training and support for software and hardware, including but not limited to Blackbaud, the faculty portal, laptops, projectors, sound and lighting
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Educational Technology

  • Introduce new technology skills to students with teacher support
  • Assist teachers as they continue to support the development of students’ technology skills
  • Teach and support teachers as they integrate technology into everyday learning
  • Pursue opportunities to remain current on new learning and teaching technologies and best practices
  • Assist the Director of eLearning on educational technology curriculum revision and program development


Operational Technology

  • Perform network administrator tasks in a Windows network environment, including but not limited to printing ID cards, creating accounts, and managing file/web servers, switches, and firewall
  • Coordinate and monitor WT Technology Department assets, including but not limited to assisting with purchasing, deploying, or replacing hardware devices
  • Troubleshoot and maintain copiers and printers, including training, replacing consumables and working with the School’s copier/printer vendor(s)
  • Assist with logging into computers and email and addressing user concerns/issues
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and utilizing processes and procedures that support the Operational Technology objectives and the Mission of the school


  • Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience required; a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in educational technology and/or operational technology support, preferably within a school environment
  • Experience in academic computing environments, instructional design, educational technology development, and/or faculty development/support and training desirable
  • Knowledge of Microsoft and Apple operating systems and software, Google Apps for Education, Blackbaud, Active Directory, and multi-platform environments
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong commitment to customer service
  • Proven ability to analyze situations and employ creative and effective decision-making to solve problems and achieve results required
  • Ability to excel in a team environment with total cooperation and mutual respect
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work some non-traditional hours to fulfill project requirements or resolve system failures
