Academic Technology Services provides a variety of digital technology services to faculty, research staff, postdoctoral, graduate and undergraduate students, including all academic departments, schools and divisions. Academic Technology coordinates across campus providers to deliver coordinated services critical to all aspects of the research enterprise. Educational Technology Services (ETS), an Academic Technology team, provides technology services, support, and resources to the UC San Diego academic community, facilitating teaching and learning in service of the University's educational mission.

Working in a friendly, energetic environment of educational technology professionals, the Educational Technology Analyst works with faculty to translate instructional technology goals to specific packages of IT services, software, hardware, and processes. The Analyst will provision courses, servers and labs for student and instructor access; troubleshoot problems; and develop and apply policies regarding access. Part of the time will be spent in the office on analytical and resource management duties; part will be in the field, meeting with instructors and teaching assistants and learning their instructional technology needs and aspirations.

While it doesn’t supervise staff, this position coordinates across a variety of service providers and assembles cross-department teams to create solutions and resolve problems. They will also act as a service owner, and will mentor and train second-tier support staff. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Performs highly complex analysis of instructional technology needs

  • Manages instructional technology lab, server, and software provisioning and performs some data management duties

  • Provides the highest tier of technical support to instructors, responding to escalated tickets

  • Provides advanced consultations with instructors to analyze instructional technology requirements

  • Works with instructional designers and technologists to identify, specify, develop and guide assembly of instructional technology solutions for undergraduate and graduate courses

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's Degree in related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.

  • Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Strong interpersonal and communications skills to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. 

  • Demonstrated strong experience working with instructors, preferably in a university setting. Demonstrable understanding of VIP service and high-touch standards of customer service.

  • Advanced knowledge of business and process analysis functions. Demonstrated ability to assess specific instructional needs, analyze and recommend appropriate technology to meet those needs.

  • Advanced knowledge of related areas of IT. Advanced knowledge of the spectrum of technology involved in instructional IT, including learning management systems, timesharing systems (e.g. Linux servers), hands-on computing labs and virtual reality. 

  • Advanced knowledge of the processes and procedures involved in instruction, especially higher education, including classroom instruction, hybrid and flipped classroom technologies, and use of computer labs and other physical IT resources.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the landscape of discipline-specific software used in instruction. Broad understanding of private/public cloud based services and software

  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Demonstrates problem solving skills.

Preferred

  • ITIL Foundations.

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
