This director will stay abreast of latest educational technology and literacy skills. The director provides leadership and innovation for enhancing teaching and learning through the identification, evaluation, adoption, and integration of effective educational innovations into the curriculum. This director works closely with faculty and staff to design optimum learning environments where there is room for risk taking, critical thinking, problem-solving, self-assessment, reflection, creativity, collaboration, global outreach, and imagination. Students, too, will develop these same skills and will create presentations with their audience in mind. In addition, students will develop a voice and choice in their learning. The innovator will promote growth, not just change, and will ask questions. The Educational Technology and Innovation Director has a strong interest and experience in pedagogy, innovation, teaching, and learning.

Responsibilities

  • Meets with Technology Director and other members of the Technology Department on a regular basis to assess needs, develop and communicate technology policies, build annual budget, and recommend technology.
  • Participates actively in the school’s academic Leadership Team.
  • Maintains awareness of best practices, emerging technologies and new potentials in educational technology that may be adopted as new and emerging instructional media, technologies, pedagogies, and practices
  • Possesses the ability to apply various instructional design approaches to learning content and to professionally design and implement engaging and effective teaching and learning strategies
  • Provides inspiration in developing and implementing new innovative pedagogical design, consulting, and advisory support for teachers and students. Supports a cultural shift towards more innovation through collaboration.
  • Works closely with the Head of School and Elementary School Director to provide meaningful professional development activities and workshops focused on educational technology and innovative instruction.
  • Promotes media, digital, and global literacies allowing users to create and share content with others: within the classroom, outside their immediate classroom, and the broader community.
  • Connects with teachers individually to support each teacher’s innovation growth from their own starting point and at their own pace.
  • Supports faculty in developing units, projects, or other educational technology applications within their curriculum.
  • Supports faculty in developing a 1:1 learning environment in their classrooms.
  • Acts as the central participant in the school’s ongoing 1:1 planning.
  • Assists faculty with curriculum lessons requiring the use of technology.
  • Assists students in the classroom and/or Innovation Lab with applications as needed.
  • Identifies needed software and applications to support the curriculum
  • Maintains an applications inventory
  • Implements differentiated instructional techniques for teachers to use with students.
  • Be a consistent presence on campus in locations where technology is being integrated, especially during technology-integrated instruction and other technology-mediated activities.
  • Supports development of a school-wide common language around innovation, including faculty, students, families, and the local community. Connects with innovation leaders at other schools.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree is desirable. Specific training in educational technology, computer science, or a combination is desired. (Exceptional, successful experience may be considered in lieu of the specific training.)
  • Demonstrated understanding of appropriate uses of technology in the educational setting, particularly as regards mobile technology in a 1:1 learning environment.
  • Competency, agility, and fluency with computers and software in particular Microsoft Office and Google and Apple Applications
  • An understanding of multiple operating systems
  • Competency in iOS software and iPad functionality
  • Current knowledge of available and emerging technologies, especially as regards mobile computing
  • Ability to effectively communicate with faculty regarding technology use in both oral and written form
  • Ability to effectively train faculty in technology use
  • Knowledge of sound teaching strategies
  • Full familiarity with Elementary School curriculum areas
  • Classroom teaching experience
