POSITION SUMMARY:

The Educational Technology Consultant functions as a member of the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) Academic IT Educational Technology team. This position is instrumental supporting the educational technologies tools for the Doctor of Physical Therapy program within Academic Affairs. Technologies will include, but are not limited to: high stakes quizzing and testing, student response system, clinical placement software, conferencing and collaboration tools and other campus supported tools within the Learn@UW suite.

In addition, this position will also consult with faculty and staff on instructional design, develop online learning material and oversees the management of course content within the Learning Management System (LMS).

POSITION DUTIES:

 

Principal duties:

(50%) Educational Technology Support

  • Supports both in-person and online educational technology tools for SMPH Academic Affairs programs with a primary focus on the needs of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. Technologies to include but not limited to:

  • ExamSoft: High stakes quizzing and testing

  • Canvas: Learning Management System (LMS) for course content delivery

  • Blackboard & Webex: Conferencing and collaboration

  • TopHat: Student response software

(45%) Educational and Instructional Design Consultant

  • Serves as first-level support for Learn@UW suite of supported learning technologies.

  • Design and develops engaging online learning modules using instructional design best practices through a variety of technologies.

  • Develops and maintains knowledge of the specific and unique needs of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.

  • Enhance teaching, learning and engagement within the Academic IT community by identifying educational technology opportunities and working collaboratively with the faculty, educational leaders, and the Academic IT team to implement.

  • Work collaboratively with the Educational Technology team to provide instructional design assistance to faculty and staff.

(5%) Professional Development and Other

  • Participate in professional associations to remain knowledgeable about emerging technologies in medical and technology.

  • Collaborate with Doctor of Physical Therapy program to plan for the development of new opportunities and resources to remain innovative in aligning with SMPH strategies in education and instruction.

  • Other duties as assigned.

DEGREE AND AREA OF SPECIALIZATION:

Bachelor's degree required. Degree preferred from one of the following areas: Adult or professional education, curriculum and instruction, instructional design, educational leadership, instructional technology, or a related field.

MINIMUM YEARS AND TYPE OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE:

Required number of years and type of relevant work experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience supporting and/or facilitating the use of educational technologies.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in instructional design; preferably within higher education or healthcare.
- Ability to work effectively within a team, but can work independently and take initiative.
- High level of attention to detail with written and verbal communication.
- Ability to build bridges and strong collaborative relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve objectives.

Preferred number of years and type of relevant work experience:
- Experience designing and developing online learning modules (experience with Articulate Storyline and/or Rise especially helpful).
- An ability to analyze and integrate trends in the use of educational technology within higher education.
 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
