The Northwest School is a college-preparatory, co-educational independent day and boarding school near the heart of downtown Seattle. We offer a rich and challenging program to roughly 500 students in grades 6 through 12, including about 80 international students, many of whom live in our campus dormitory. The Educational Technology Coordinator supports the mission of the school by working with faculty, students, and parents to facilitate the use and integration of technology into the school’s curriculum and activities.  

This is a full-time, 11 months per year position and works the months of August through June each year. 

Essential Functions Include:

Collaborate with Faculty:

  • Inspire, encourage and support faculty in their educational use of technology. Provide leadership and assistance to faculty by determining how best to integrate technology tools into the curriculum, including collaborating on overall curriculum or specific projects or lessons.

  • Support the implementation and development of the school’s strategic plan, including working with all teachers to improve and expand their use of technology.

  • Teach or team-teach select classes with a focus on Information and Digital Literacy.

  • Provide formal and informal technology professional development to faculty.

  • Collaborate with the IT department to provide “helpdesk” assistance to troubleshoot or support all aspects of technology use in the buildings as well as general assistance with faculty questions or issues.

  • Facilitate thinking critically about how technology is used and evaluated.

  • Serve on several committees including the Committee on Online Learning (CoOL), Curriculum Committee and the Ed Tech Committee, as well as consistently attend other meetings.

  • Research and purchase equipment, computer hardware, and computer software in conjunction with IT department.  

  • Train teachers in setting up and maintaining OBA pages, updating curriculum, and integrating technology in their projects and activities.

  • Research and prepare web, professional development, and Responsible Use Policies.  

  • Create and deliver technology orientation to new and returning faculty.

Support Students: 

  • Supervise the computer lab and provide “just in time” assistance for hardware/software issues. 

  • Supervise an environment team.

  • Collaborate with the librarians to continue to develop, deliver and expand the Information and Digital Literacy curriculum. 

  • Assist with home- and classwork, both in the use of technology and general homework help.

  • Maintain a Teacher Page with resources for students and parents.

  • Create and deliver orientation to the lab at the beginning of the school year and maintain a current file of student-signed Responsible Use Policies. 

  • Ensure compliance with the Responsible Use Policy by monitoring student computer activities.

  • Prepare and supervise keyboarding training for 6th grade.

  • Support the 1-1 program, in its second year, by co-leading and designing the on boarding curriculum, setting up machines, helping students access loaner devices, and perform spot troubleshooting. 

  • Provide ongoing administration of the student 1:1 program by addressing student needs daily. 

  • Staff a support desk in a common area in order to offer solutions and support to students.

Support Parents:

  • Serve as a resource for individual parents and the Parent Association about issues of technology in the lives of students.

Other Responsibilities: 

Ed Tech Coordinators may be asked to teach a technology related academic course which includes: 

  • Teach one section of technology course to middle and/or upper school students. 

  • Coordinate curricula with other department and grade level teachers.

  • Plan and teach a 2-week intensive course, known as a Summit, each year.

  • Advise a group of students.

  • Cultivate positive family partnerships.

  • Participate fully in the life of the school which includes collaborating effectively and collegially with a teaching team, grade-level, and department; engage regularly in formal, ongoing professional development beyond school based in- service; support colleagues and the school by substituting for absent teachers; participate in meetings, committees, and community gatherings; and know, understand, and uphold the mission, philosophy and values of the school. All teachers contribute to the school mission and community with activities such as supporting student social-emotional learning, interest groups (clubs), social events, and grade level trips.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the school’s mission, values, and philosophy, especially related to diversity, equity, and inclusion; environmental sustainability, and global perspective.

  • A bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Experience or education in educational technology.

  • Demonstrated success with culturally responsive pedagogy.

  • Experience teaching a diverse student body through a social justice lens.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in presenting information to groups, formally and informally.  

  • Demonstrated maintenance of expertise on education and technology issues and applications and shares this expertise as appropriate with faculty and students. 

  • ISTE Certification a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students. 

  • Experience with teaching or coaching Coding, Computer Science, Robotics, Art, or Electronics.
