Information Technology department in the School of Dentistry has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Educational Technology Specialist. 

The Educational Technology Specialist’s role is to support and consult with academic leadership, teaching faculty, and key end-users to manage and evolve the role of Educational Technology and Distance Learning within the school. This is achieved by planning, design, implementation and prioritization of education technology infrastructure at the school. This role will work in close collaboration with Academic Affairs, Rural Initiative for Dental Education program (RIDE), department administrators, the broader IT team, and key technology vendors.  

The Education Technology Specialist will drive end-user adoption and success with the school's education technology and distance education systems.  The person will also be responsible for documenting policies and procedures relating to the evolution, operations and support of the teaching environment, to the benefit of local and remote students, faculty, and staff.  The person will also have expertise in integration with audio and video technology that integrate with core learning technologies. 

This position supports the Dean, faculty, staff and students by establishing and managing a reliable, secure, HIPAA and FERPA compliant teaching and distance learning environment. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Key Responsibilities 

  • End-user and academic leadership consultation to include feedback capture and change management on education and distance learning technologies. 

  • Collaboration with academic faculty on Learning Management Systems and personal to large lecture capture technologies. 

  • Collaboration with other UW departments and units e.g. Health Sciences Classroom Services, School of Medicine, UW-IT 

  • Create content with and train Faculty and Staff in the use of teaching and learning tools e.g. Canvas LMS, ExamSoft Exmplify, SoftChalk. 

  • Provide classroom support during live streamed courses and have the ability to comfortably troubleshoot hardware and software issues gracefully and in front of an audience while communicating with classroom team members in remote sites. 

  • Maintain the well-being of classroom technologies through proactive, direct effort, and in coordination with key vendors. 

  • Policy and procedure development and implementation. 

  • Development of scenario-based classroom technology standards. 

  • Development of technology refresh plans based on available school budget. 

  • Collaboration on system level risk assessments and security planning. 

  • End-user training and user documentation. 

  • Communicating system-level policies to end-users. 

  • Education Technology system configuration. 

  • Vendor management and escalations. 

  • Project management and support responsibilities. 

  • Triage incidents and problems effectively with the support of the school's ticketing system. 

  • Business continuity planning. 

  • After-hours support requests, as needed. 

Secondary Responsibilities 

  • Supporting academic teams with report generation and maintenance. 

  • Audit user activities on Educational Technology servers and services.

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • BA in Computing, Education, or relevant field plus 2 years experience or more in total comprising: 

  • Experience (2+ years) working in an academic computing environment with a range of teaching and learning platforms and environments. 

  • Experience (2+ years) working with distance learning audio/video tools. 

  • Experience (1+ years) participating in or leading IT projects, ideally related to EdTEch. 

  • Experience (1+ years) of mentoring others in the use of IT tools. 

  • Experience (1+ years) of end-user content development. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. 

DESIRED 

  • Maintaining a HIPAA and FERPA compliant environment. 

  • Experience with Canvas LMS. 

  • Experience with ExamSoft and/or Softchalk. 

  • Experience with Skype for Business, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Polycom products, Lifesize products.
