ROLE SUMMARY

The Educational Technology Specialist (ETS) is responsible for supporting the software applications used by teachers and school administrators.  The goal for this position is to maximize the impact of educational systems used by teachers and students.  The ETS administers educational software and online services.  The ETS provides services to format and manipulate data required to setup user accounts for software applications and distribution of surveys.  This role also assists in developing and delivering training to ensure that teachers and students are proficient in the recommended methods for using Valor’s educational technologies.

Collaboratively, the ETS assists with a variety of IT support functions, including the annual process of issuing and refreshing personal computers for faculty, maintaining classroom A/V equipment and supporting faculty use of technology. The ETS provides resources and information regarding best practices in educational technology in order to advance student learning.

Administer Valor’s Educational Systems

  • Administer Valor’s educational software, including but not limited to Schoology, Education Edge, GradeCam, Grammarly, Discovery Education,TurnItIn and Qualtrics surveys
  • Monitor, analyze and report metrics regarding the level of adoption and user-proficiency for Valor’s educational technologies
  • Provide user training and support for Valor’s Learning Management System (LMS) and other educational technologies
  • Provide professional development for faculty focusing on strategies and activities for improving daily instruction and student learning
  • Work collaboratively with Valor’s departmental Tech Leads on a regular basis
  • Assist Valor employees in manipulating student and parent data for import to other systems
  • Serve as liaison with selected vendors of educational technology products

Assist Valor’s IT Support Team

  • Coordinate projects to improve Valor’s educational systems
  • Assist Valor’s IT Help Desk function during peak workloads

RELATIONSHIPS

Valor IT:  Collaborate with members of the IT team to support, maintain and advance educational technology use

Teachers: Become a trusted advisor to all teachers in regard to technologies that enrich teaching and learning and support teacher productivity

School Administrators:  Serve administrative departments by understanding their technology needs and delivering integrated information system solutions that improve productivity and achieve school-wide goals

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES  

Education:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Degree or certification in Educational Technology is preferred

Experience:

  • Classroom teaching experience is preferred
  • Experience administering high school Learning Management and Student Information Systems is preferred
  • Experience providing user technical support
  • Experience helping teachers gain proficiency in their use of technology

Required Competencies:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to manage multiple concurrent responsibilities
  • Able to maintain a calm and professional demeanor while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to quickly master new software applications and other technology
  • Familiar with the workflows and technology needs of classroom teachers
  • Able to use MS-Excel to manipulate data for import/export between systems
  • Highly proficient in the use of MS-Office products, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Understand and anticipate technical issues related to computer system interfaces
  • Familiar with administrative functions of Valor’s core systems:
    • Microsoft Active Directory
    • Google Apps
    • Student Information Systems
    • Apple, Windows, iOS and Android operating systems
