POSITION OVERVIEW

 

The Enterprise Database Manager position requires strong database knowledge and systems analytics skills. This role is responsible for providing administrative support for enterprise databases and information systems, including the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of these systems.

 

In addition, this position is responsible for reviewing processes, analyzing data and, when necessary, modifying systems. Changes may include developing, testing, debugging and installing necessary modifications to processes and/or data to support Westminster’s information systems. This position requires formal training on and knowledge of relational databases, web and client-server concepts, and experience working with multiple systems to simplify processes while aligning and integrating data across those systems. This position also requires work-planning with various divisions and departments to accomplish enterprise-wide data, information, and analysis goals while maintaining the integrity of the School’s systems infrastructure. The Enterprise Systems Analyst will oversee and manage data exchange across campus-wide information systems and serve as a technology resources to enhance administrative capabilities.

Position Status:  This position is a salaried, exempt, full-time, regular, 12-month position.

Hours of Work:  Standard work week.  Evening and weekend work may be required.

 

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Enterprise Database Manager Skills and Qualifications:

  • Coordinate data alignment within and across systems; oversee new data development, and maintain consistency with data warehouse structure.
  • Review intra and inter Divisional/Departmental data and information needs; maintain understanding of key data relationships, interdependencies, nomenclature, key data attributes, information flow, and data storage requirements within and across systems.
  • Work with Divisions and Departments to outline key data and information needs from enterprise systems; understand end-uses for data import/export requests, and reporting requests to align information to fit user needs.
  • Align data, systems, and work processes to enable quick and easy reporting for key constituents across the School; review capabilities required to manage reporting requests; identify opportunities to improve feeds and output design for end user ease of use or support design of self-service.
  • Participate in the design, maintenance, enhancement, coding, and administration of relational databases.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts, enhancing systems performance for increased and aligned functionality to serve the School’s evolving data, information, and reporting requirements.
  • Lead as subject matter expert, specializing in delivering database access to the School’s various stakeholders, training each user on their specific functional needs; support the systems architecture and evolving database design.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of database vendor products, their functionality, and emerging database/data warehousing/OLAP concepts. Evaluate and make recommendations for database components and tools that can be used to better serve the School’s needs.

 

The Enterprise Database Manager will have demonstrated technical expertise in and experience working with XML, SOAP, Restful APIs, file transfer protocols, data transformation, software documentation, software testing, software maintenance, software development process, software requirements, software architecture, teamwork, and general problem-solving skills.

 

Additionally, the Enterprise Database Manager will:

  • Maintain a functional understanding of software systems and a fundamental understanding of software coding.
  • Address concerns that arise during the restructuring of existing systems, explaining the advantages and disadvantages to new system selections or outlining the key impacts to the systems ecosystem from vendor changes.
  • Communicate effectively while working with employees at all levels of the organization in a professional manner; represent the best interest of the School during the process of current systems reviews and new systems decisions.

 

Enterprise Database Manager Job Duties:

 

  • Work with Divisions and Departments to determine unique needs from enterprise databases and systems; transform those needs into information technology system requirements and execute the necessary steps to complete the requests.
  • During new systems implementation and systems audits, create, execute and verify effective testing plans at the process and system level to ensure alignment with IT specifications and key user feedback.
  • Coordinate with Data Governance Committee, Project Champions, PMO and IT to establishing systems specifications; coordinate production of changes with programmers and collaborate with necessary internal stakeholders to ensure changes meet the School’s needs.
  • Develop solutions for enterprise systems data and information problems including data updates, reporting, transformation, or extractions by evaluating alternative workflows or process options.
  • Analyze and correct process logic problems within and across systems.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for enterprise systems use, training power users for self-service and providing technical and troubleshooting support.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development education opportunities, staying up to date on professional publications, technical networks, professional organizations, etc.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

Bachelor's degree and substantial, demonstrated success with database and systems analyst responsibilities in an academic environment.  Additional education, experience, and skills may include:

  • A sound understanding of technical concepts and organizational practices in education environments

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.  The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.

 

 

TRAVEL

 

Travel is primarily local during the regular business day.  Overnight and out-of-area travel may also be required.
