Bucknell University (www.bucknell.edu) seeks a leader with a vision for innovation in library services and resources to assume the newly created position of Executive Director, Research Services & Digital Scholarship (RS-DS). Reporting to the Vice President for Library & Information Technology (L&IT), the Executive Director will join a team committed to ensuring that Bucknell’s integrated Library and IT organization sustains a culture of innovation, inclusiveness, and excellence in service to the students, faculty, and staff of the University.

The Executive Director, RS-DS will provide strategic and operational direction to two departments within L&IT: 1) Research Services & Information Literacy, which supports information resource evaluation and selection, assignment design, research skill and information literacy development through classroom and individual instruction, and direct assistance to students and faculty in their scholarship and 2) Digital Pedagogy & Scholarship, which partners with students and faculty to drive the integration of technology in teaching, learning, and research, and leads campus efforts in faculty research in digital scholarship.

The Executive Director, RS-DS will be an innovative leader with strong collaboration and interpersonal skills and an articulate vision for the role of technology and library services that supports teaching, learning, and scholarship in a premier liberal arts university setting. They will be an agent of change, sustaining classic library programs that remain relevant to 21st century while cultivating high-impact resources in emergent fields of theory and practice.

Well-qualified candidates will have proven experience as a skilled and empowering leader and manager, demonstrated appreciation for and participation in efforts and initiatives designed to recruit and retain a diverse and high-performing staff, budgetary experience, and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with constituencies across the campus community – including the ability to translate technical issues and terminology into language understood by the broader community. Significant experience in progressively responsible leadership roles in information technology and/or library services is required, as is a master’s degree; a terminal degree such as MLS or PhD is preferred.

The Community

Located in central Pennsylvania, Lewisburg features a variety of restaurants, beautiful Victorian homes, the restored art deco Campus Theatre (owned by the University), charming shops and boutiques, and the Barnes and Noble at Bucknell University Bookstore. About 33,000 residents live in the region.

 

The city of Williamsport is about a 30-minute drive from campus, and Penn State University’s main campus is about an hour away, as is Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s state capital. Bucknell is about three hours from New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
