Overall Responsibility:

As head of the Technology Department, the Executive Director of Technology provides leadership and direction for technology necessary to support all facets of district operations, including instruction and administration. This position ensures robust and reliable access to technology tools and resources, delivered through excellent customer service. The Executive Director of Technology fosters technological innovation and supports effective and efficient utilization of a wide variety of software and equipment. The Executive Director of Technology directs instructional technology and curriculum integration, software systems integration, hardware systems integration and network systems integration.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Provides districtwide vision and leadership for developing and implementing technology initiatives that support District’s goals, with an emphasis on integration of technology-based teaching and learning in all classrooms.

  2. Provides leadership and direction for the maintenance and support services for client computing technologies, enterprise software, peripherals, and professional development design and creation.

  3. Ensures that the design, development, and implementation of enterprise applications and infrastructure systems support the needs of teaching, learning, and operational efficiency.

  4. Provides strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of the information and technology systems for the District, ensuring support of the District’s goals and objectives.

  5. Develops and enforces policies and procedures to ensure the protection of information technology assets and the integrity, security, and privacy of data entrusted to or maintained by the District.

  6. Develops District Technology Plan and coordinates plan implementation including ongoing revisions to ensure that technology is leveraged to enhance teaching, advance learning, and increase the effectiveness of business systems.

  7. Develops and implements an accountability system for measuring the success of the goals outlined in the District Technology Plan.

  8. Develops District information technology policies and procedures and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

  9. Directs, manages, and provides oversight of the operations of the District’s Technology Department.

  10. Establishes guidelines and programs for effective information technology management throughout the District.

  11. Provides leadership in the selection, design, implementations, integration, and ongoing support for all information systems throughout the District.

  12. Provides leadership in the use of technology to improve student learning, through decisions regarding equipment, infrastructure, application, and software at all levels, in support of the District Technology Plan.

  13. Supports implementation of District’s SOAR 2030 Strategic Vision.

  14. Implements a system of continuous review and improvement of processes and procedures throughout the department.  

  15. Serves as a District representative and assumes responsibility at local, regional, state, and national meetings and events pertaining to areas of responsibility.

  16. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

  17. Provides exceptional customer service in support of student achievement throughout the department.  

  18. Oversees the development and administration of the annual budget for the Technology Department.

  19. Implements and coordinates contracts and services for many different federal and state programs.

  20. Directs and/or coordinates the development of specifications for the procurement of hardware, software, telecommunications, and support services required to support district operations and planned projects.

  21. Oversees all purchasing, ordering, receiving, and installing of hardware and software for the district.  Prepare and administer departmental and capital budgets while ensuring that programs are cost effective.

  22. Compiles reasonable budgets and cost estimates based upon documented program needs.

  23. Determines the fiscal needs of programs and ensure those resources appropriately address these needs and conform to the mission of the school district.

  24. Directs, manages, and provides oversight to ensure alignment with District standards and the cost-effective utilization of technology and information systems resources are met and maintained.

  25. Exemplifies integrity, candor, and high ethical conduct.

  26. Provides vision, leadership, and direction to all employees within the department.

  27. Supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned staff.

  28. Develops and maintains relationships with job alike positions in area school districts.

  29. Stays current on of new developments in the field and continually builds the capacity of the department and the individuals that serve on the technology team.

  30. Prepares materials and presentations for Board of Trustees meetings.

  31. Performs other duties related to the position, as assigned.

 

Requirements

Education: Bachelor's Degree (required); Master’s degree (preferred); Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL) by the Consortium for School Networking (preferred); Technology specialization and/or certifications (preferred). 

Experience: Five + years of management or administrative experience in a public-school environment. Experience in information technology and cyber security. Experience in technology systems and/or administrative computer systems management, support, and/or maintenance to include such areas as technology policy and protocols; requirements analysis, design, and development of software and database applications; data integrity efforts; storage area networks (SAN) and virtualization (VMware) technology concepts; distance education infrastructure and concepts; disaster recovery and backup storage concepts; email management; and wide area and local area network (WAN/LAN) management.  

Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of the latest hardware, software, and communication technologies utilized in public schools or education environment. Strong leadership and project management skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills. Skilled in technology evaluation and selection as appropriate for educational purposes. High level of proficiency in assessment of systems and programs regarding technology implementation to ensure interoperability, integration, and security.
