Position Announcement

Design and direct strategies promoting student, faculty, staff, and community innovation and entrepreneurship by coordinating the activities of the DSU Business Resource Center with academic programs, student programs, and community initiatives within the Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship (TIE) Center. Direct the activities and develop strategic plans for the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and Blazer Club, working directly with DSU administration, local and county governments, and state leaders.
 

Responsibilities

Direct Small Business Development Center (50-60%)

  • Coordinate and perform counseling and training activities
  • Partner with local business and community leaders to obtain support and sponsorships for SBDC initiatives
  • Supervise administrative staff and volunteers
  • Communicate with SBDC Lead Center regarding submission, maintenance, and management of annual operating budget
  • Collect, compile and provide information requested by the Lead Center for use in quarterly and annual reports
  • Assist the Lead Center in the preparation of annual SBDC funding proposals
  • Work with the local media to promote favorable publicity
  • Attend the SBDC regional directors meetings and any other meetings designated as mandatory by the State Director
  • Adhere to the Small Business Administration (SBA) and America's Small Business Development Center (ASBDC) standards of conduct

Direct the Business Resource Center and Coordinate Innovation Plaza Programming (30-40%)

  • Coordinate the activities within the TIE Center (http://catalog.dixie.edu/campusresources/tie_center/)
  • Educate and direct customers to available resources in the TIE Center
  • Determine the needs of the small business community; meet those needs with consulting, business training programs, and other services
  • Create and manage mentor relationships for entrepreneurial students
  • Write and manage grant proposals for TIE initiatives
  • Coordinate the activities of the Business Resource Center and other strategic partnerships
  • Manage the build-out of Innovation Plaza
  • Manage makerspace labs and business incubation tenants

Direct Blazer Club (10-20%)

  • Organize and direct regular meetings of the Blazer Club (a group of local/community entrepreneurs who give back to students to encourage and foster entrepreneurial activities)
  • Develop key initiatives for the Blazer Club
  • Develop systems for assigning and mentoring Blazer Club initiatives
  • Coordinate and communicate with members of the Blazer Club, including raising funds to support entrepreneurial activities

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field required; Master's degree preferred
  • Experience building and running a private business
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong leadership skills including a track record of building organizations
  • Ability to manage and motivate senior level people inside and outside the University
  • Strong technical knowledge and well-rounded in technology fields such as computer sciences, advanced manufacturing, and medical technology
  • Proven track record in developing quality relationships with community, corporate, and governmental entities
  • Proven grant writing experience preferred

 

Supplemental Information

Contract: Full­-time (12 month) professional staff position. Annual salary of $90,000 plus an excellent benefits package.
