Job Summary

The Fab Lab Technician is responsible for overseeing the day to day operation of the UTA Fab Lab and the maintenance of the equipment within the lab. Additionally, they will supervise, mentor, and promote the professional development of student employees, who provide the first point of customer service and technical assistance to learners in the Fab Lab.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide recruitment, training, and supervision of student employees and volunteers. Ensure that equipment and software in the lab is properly maintained and in optimal working condition. Provide routine maintenance of equipment in the lab. Repair equipment as needed and maintain inventory of consumable materials for learners. Teach learners in the Fab Lab how to use the various software and machinery available in the lab. Work with learners to assist in their projects, provide guidance in the development of their projects, and direct them to the most appropriate tools and resources. Performs other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a STEAM discipline-Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, or Math. Three (3) years of experience in a STEAM discipline, may include lab experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience managing and/or working in a makerspace or digital fabrication lab; two (2) years supervisory experience; experience working with industrial computer controlled manufacturing technologies; experience with machine shop tools; experience with three (3) or more of the following fabrication technologies: 3D Printing, 3D Scanning, Laser Cutting, CNC Routing, Plasma Cutting, Electronics, Textiles, Machine Shop Equipment; previous teaching experience
