Berkeley Preparatory School is seeking a Fabrication Lab Assistant for the Middle and Upper Divisions for for the 2018-2019 school year. The Lab Assistant will work collaboratively with the Middle Division Design Arts Teacher. The qualified applicate will have a demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in a fully equipped woodworking studio.

The qualified candidate shall be able to demonstrate the following:

•    The safe and effective use of hand tools.
•    The safe and effective use of hand held power tools.
•    The safe and effective use of stationary machine tools.
•    Knowledge of, and experience with, commonly used joinery techniques.
•    Knowledge of, and experience with, commonly used wood shop materials.
•    Knowledge of, and experience with, commonly used furniture and assembly hardware.
•    The ability to assist students through the next step in a defined project.
•    The able to assist students through the steps needed to design and complete individual projects.
•    The willingness and ability to adjust previously learned methods to meet uniform shop safety standards.
•    The ability to select and adjust the proper cutting, milling, boring, and sanding tools for completing a job.
 
We are open to training current college students or recent graduates who have experience working in their school fabrication studios.
