Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School is looking for a visionary Computer Science educator who can help craft and evolve our Computer Science curriculum for the next generation of students as well as teach our current curriculum, which includes both AP Computer Science A and AP Computer Science Principles courses and an introductory course. The Head of the Computer Science Department (HCSD) provides revitalization and leadership to the Upper School in the areas of Computer Science curriculum, instruction, research, and project development, ensuring that the Upper School curriculum and program provides our students with superb content, skills, and opportunities. The HCSD teaches five sections of Computer Science each semester in addition to serving as Department Head and will receive an additional stipend for coaching students in coding for robotics. No other extracurricular duties will be expected. The HCSD proposes new courses and designs curriculum for novice and expert students alike, aims to grow the department, and advocates generally for Computer Science as a discipline within the school. The HCSD shares supervision of any teachers from other departments who teach courses in the Computer Science department.

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to Computer Science, with a Master’s Degree preferred, and coursework that demonstrates a clear ability to teach the entire Computer Science curriculum. Required also is coursework or experience that demonstrates a clear capacity to design new computer science-related curriculum. Enthusiasm for teaching and working with high school students and for maintaining an ever-evolving curriculum is critical. Excellent communication skills are expected for all teachers and department heads; it will be especially important for this individual who represents the entire Computer Science department.
