Schechter Westchester seeks a STEAM / digital design / robotics/ Makerspace educator to join the High School STEAM teaching staff. He/she will play a prominent role in our four-year Engineering and Entrepreneurship (E2) program. Based in three fully-equipped Makerspaces, High School students work in teams to brand and fabricate permanent art installations, brand and publicize companies, design and prototype product ideas, and prepare investor pitches. This educator will work collaboratively to ignite the natural curiosity of our students and promote a culture of innovation, creativity, and cooperation to solve real-world problems through technology, digital story-telling, modeling, and fabrication.

Desired Skill Sets

Although we do not require the educator to have all of the below skills at the onset, we do hope that he/she will be fearless and excited about learning them over time.

Digital Design 

  • 3D printing / CNC routing and CAD software
  • Adobe Creative Suite including Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Familiarity with Final Cut Pro and video editing production

Making and Design

  • Enthusiasm for Maker culture
  • Wood, plastic, and/or metal cutting, shaping and fabrication, including the use of related tools and familiarity with safety procedures for those tools
  • Sewing and textile fabrication
  • Knowledge of basic electronics
  • Working knowledge of computer programming in languages such as Arduino, Lego Mindstorms, Python, or Java

Robotics​​​​​​​

  • Mentor experience with FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team
  • Knowledge of robotics and interest in supporting and learning with students who have some background in these areas

The ideal candidate will have at least three years of teaching experience at the secondary level and demonstrate exceptional skills in pedagogy, oral and written communication, and building strong connections with students.
