Schechter Westchester seeks a Computer Science/Robotics/Makerspace educator to join the High School STEAM teaching staff. He/she will play a prominent role in our four-year Engineering and Entrepreneurship (E2) program, based in a well-equipped Makerspace, in which high school students work in teams to brand and publicize companies, design and prototype product ideas, and prepare investor pitches.  This educator will work collaboratively to ignite the natural curiosity of our students and give them tools to innovate, create, and cooperate to solve real-world problems through coding, design, modeling, and fabrication.

Skill Sets:

We do not require the educator to have all of the below skills at the onset.

We do hope that he/she will be fearless and excited about learning them over time.

 

Computer Skills:

-         C, C++ and Java, HTML, Javascript

-         Scratch, AppInventor

-         Computer science pedagogy

 

Robotics Skills:

-         Mentor experience with FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team

-         Knowledge of robotics and programming in Java or an interest in supporting and learning with students who have some background in these areas

 

Making and Design Skills:

-         Enthusiasm for Maker culture

-         Wood, plastic, or metal cutting, shaping and fabrication, including the use of related tools and familiarity with safety procedures for those tools

-         Knowledge of basic electronics

-         Physical computing with Arduino and Raspberry pi

-         3D printing / CNC routing and CAD software

-         Familiarity with Final Cut Pro and video editing production

The ideal candidate will have at least three years of teaching experience at the secondary level and demonstrate exceptional skills in pedagogy, oral and written communication, and building strong connections with students.
