St John’s College is an Anglican school situated on an historic campus in Houghton, offering quality education from Nursery School to Sixth Form. The school has an outstanding academic record and has an excellent reputation in sport, music, drama, art and debating.

The position is to support the Director of IT in sustaining the IT systems across the Campus through:

  • Maintaining, enhancing and upgrading of network infrastructure across the campus, involving several thousand devices running Windows, Mac, iPad, Office 365, G Suite and iPad systems and supporting many cloud-based services

  • Management of annual budget and tracking of expenditure

  • Maintaining SLA enforcement with suppliers and technicians

  • Ensuring maximum availability of computer systems throughout the school

  • Responsible for the provision and monitoring of ICT infrastructure services including desktop applications, Local and / or Wide area networks, IT security and telecommunications

  • Working with senior management to propose, agree and deliver IT services to defined Service Level Agreements

  • Managing a team support technicians and collaborating with the school Estate Office

  • Responsible for IT hardware, software and maintenance procurement

  • Developing and maintain a disaster recovery plan including redundancy and data back-ups

  • Project management of larger jobs eg computer room upgrades, building projects

  • Developing and controlling the IT security policy

  • Report monthly to the Director of IT on all aspects of the IT Support Department

  • Provide training to academic and technical staff as appropriate

Requirements:

  • Matric

  • Suitable IT and project-management certification(s) [ITIL, ITSM]

  • Strong background in technical support and managing an IT Team

  • Strong team-leading skills including previous IT management experience

  • Capable of working independently as well as within a team

  • Well organised and able to function effectively under pressure

  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
