The Archer School for Girls is seeking a part-time Technical Associate in Engineering & Design Education to start immediately.  Our Integrated Design & Engineering Arts program offers students innovative hands-on activities and access to powerful prototyping tools in our enhanced maker-space where students engineer solutions to real world problems.

 

This position will work closely with the Engineering and Design Coordinator to support lab operations and provide ongoing maintenance and training.  Candidates should have experience working with digital prototyping machines, electronics and tools and a passion to work with and learn from students..  Ideal candidates have a growth-mindset, a positive outlook, and a deep appreciation for the importance of working in a diverse and inclusive community.  A passion for working with young people in a culture of teaching excellence is a must.  A bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related field is necessary; experience working in a school is preferred.

 

Responsibilities of the part-time IDEAlab Technical Associate include:

  • Assisting with maintenance of design lab equipment including digital prototyping machines (3d-printers, laser cutter & vinyl cutter), electronics test equipment & soldering stations and traditional hand tools & power tools
  • Organizing, cataloging and ordering supplies
  • Ensuring that studentsand faculty use the lab safely
  • Supporting students and faculty with lab-related projects
  • Co-mentoring our robotic arts club and invention club
  • Collecting data about program and equipment utilization
  • Researching new maker and innovation curriculum activities
