Job Status: Full-time beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year; Exempt

iDept Project Engineer & Design/Fabrication Faculty

Position Description: We seek a candidate with experience in engineering, design thinking, and/or fabrication, and a demonstrated interest in working with young people in a rich, cross-disciplinary, project-based learning environment. The candidate should possess enthusiasm for innovative technology and education solutions, an eagerness to learn new technologies, and a passion for working with students of various age groups.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Faculty member in iDept, teaching Design and Fabrication courses in grades 7-12th.
  • Participate actively as an iDept team member, including creating a welcoming and inclusive culture in the iDept, ensuring students are being supervised and guiding students in safe and responsible use of tools and technology (including software).
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design learning opportunities that emphasizes critical thinking and real-world problem-solving, engages students in hands-on, project-based experiences, and aligns with the overall philosophy of the iDept program.
  • Flexible and adaptable to respond to needs in regards to innovative solutions to campus-wide engineering projects and art installations.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of the engineering design process and a variety of teaching strategies that promote engagement and understanding of the curriculum.
  • 5+ years experience with the design and fabrication processes available in our iLab shops, such as laser cutting, waterjet cutting, 3D printing, composites, woodworking, CAD/CAM, CNC machining etc. 
  • Exhibit outstanding organization and time management skills.
  • Display highly effective communication skills and be able to work collaboratively and independently.

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Arts, Industrial Design preferred but not required.
  • 2+ years professional educational experience working with secondary school-age children preferred.
  • 5+ years experience with a variety of software such as Illustrator, Onshape, SolidWorks or similar.
  • Experience with electronics, embedded design (arduino, raspberry pi etc).
