Summary/Objective

Responsible for leadership, administration and strategic direction for information, communication, and technology-related services. Plans, coordinates and supervises the operations of the Information Technology (IT) Department. Responsible for innovative and integrated use of technology-based solutions throughout the school district.

Leadership and Strategic Planning

  1. Provide leadership for researching, planning, developing and implementing and evaluating technological solutions aligned with the District strategic plan initiatives

  2. In partnership with the Assistant Superintendent, develop digital solutions for learning and assessment and related staff development

  3. Administer, supervise and provide leadership for technology and IT program, functions, budgets and staff

  4. In partnership with the District’s administrative team and principals, develop strategic direction, operational plans, action objectives, procedures and practices. Participate in short and long-term planning for technology resources

  5. Coordinate District communication strategies (Internet and social media presence) and collaborate with others in the process

  6. Coordinate and participate in preparing reports for federal grant applications and Arizona Department of Education required submissions.

 

Educational Environment

  1. Lead infusion of innovative technologies into all aspects of education. Stay abreast of state and national standards, benchmarks, and frameworks for technology literacy

  2. Have a high-level view across the school system and work with instructional and technical teams to identify steps needed to transform the technology vision into a long-range plan, complete with specific goals and objectives

  3. Facilitate equitable access to technology resources for all stakeholders

  4. Oversee safety of network systems from potential vulnerabilities and issues, cybersecurity and best preventive practices

  5. Model and ensure awareness about pertinent laws and legal issues related to implementation and use of technology in a district (copyright, privacy, compliance)

  6. Integrate technology with curriculum and instruction to provide an appropriate teaching and learning environment

  7. Identify and promote how technology can support educational best practices through communication and collaboration with the district instructional leadership

 

Managing Technology and Support Resources

  1. Develop and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans that are an integral part of the District’s technology program

  2. Provide security protocols and procedures for data access and sharing

  3. Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade and support of all IT systems including telecommunications, servers, PC’s, mobile devices, operating systems, hardware, software and peripherals

  4. Extract, transform, and load district data to disparate systems

  5. Continually improve the technical service operations systems, processes and policies in support of the Kingman Unified School District mission

  6. Ensure excellent end-user (customer service) technical support services; reporting, tracking and management of incidents and problems

  7. Develop and implement efficient business process and planning

  8. Coordinate processes and communications between technical support and schools, departments and programs

  9. Sustain all tasks related to technical systems, network infrastructure and technology device management

  10. Measure, monitor and work to drive down incident levels. Ensure that the Help Desk actively participates in improving the usability and reliability of all school district technology services

  11. Develop, manage, and monitor service level agreements with internal and external partners/vendors

  12. Demonstrate commitment to responsible environmental protection and energy –saving practices

  13. Communicate to stakeholders the appropriate ethical and professional behavior for technology use in the District

  

Communication Systems Management

  1. Direct and coordinate use of email, district websites, web tools, messaging systems, phone, and voice system

  2. Accommodate technical issues related to implementation of various communication tools

  3. Resolve design, accessibility, and compliance issues related to keeping district, school and teacher websites and other communication tools updated and operational

  4. Enhance communication by keeping up to date on emerging technologies

  5. Maintain communication systems by ensuring that they are updated, compliant, and operational

 

Business Management

  1. Manage the technology budget and guide purchasing decisions

  2. Identify funding sources available to the District and leverage them to meet district and programmatic goals

  3. Develop annual and long-range budget in collaboration with District administration

  4. Develop accurate pricing estimates for technology initiatives

  5. Make effective purchasing decisions following relevant laws, policies and guidelines

  6. Direct, manage and negotiate with vendors and business partners

 

Data Management

  1. Establish and maintain systems and tools for gathering, warehousing, mining, integrating and reporting data in usable and meaningful ways

  2. Administer data and databases following industry standards

  3. Coordinate and assist in data compilation, analysis and reporting for District department requirements

Work Environment

  1. The majority of work is performed in an office setting and within school buildings, with little exposure to the outdoors
  2. Position involves travel between buildings
  3. Position involves exposure to server and electrical equipment, printer inks and toner, and noise and dust from hardware

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is an exempt, 12-month, full-time position. Employee may regularly work extended hours to respond and resolve urgent situations and to meet deadlines. Occasional travel to conferences, with overnight stays, may be required.

 

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s or more advanced degree in information technology, computer science, information science, systems and network administration, software engineering, computer engineering, cybersecurity or related field from an accredited educational institution, and

  2. A minimum of five years of experience in information technology end-user support services, and

  3. A minimum of one year of supervisory experience, or

  4. Any equivalent combination of education and job-related experience that would allow the incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. IT management certification

  2. Project management certification

  3. Experience in a school or educational setting

  4. Experience managing an information technology department

  5. Experience with Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems

  6. Experience with Microsoft Windows Desktop Operating Systems

  7. Experience with Cisco Network Devices, Synergy (student information system), Active Directory, and standard networking equipment

 

Required Certifications/Licenses

Valid driver’s license

 

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain a Fingerprint Clearance Card with an IVP number through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
