You will aid the Information Technology team with providing large-scale, high-volume infrastructure and end-user services to the public sector community in Michigan. You will report to the VP of Technology & Operations.

What You'll Do

Essential functions for this position are followed be an (E). 

As the IT Engineer, this position’s key responsibilities include:

Operational Support Activity (60%):

  • Support core Windows server infrastructure and applications, including Active Directory, SCCM, Microsoft SQL Server, and other application servers. This will include performing OS upgrades and deployments, monitoring, patching, configuring, performance tuning, automation, maintenance, documentation, and backups. (E) 

  • Evaluate, maintain, and enhance the operational security and reliability of our Windows Server and Workstation environment. (E)

  • Evaluate, install, configure, test, debug, and document commercial and open source software. (E)

  • Develop, test, implement, and document scripts and tools for system management and automation. (E)

  • Support Google G Suite services for staff to ensure optimal end-user experience. (E)

  • Perform on-call support for production systems/applications, including problem investigation, escalation, resolution, and communication with our NOC. (E)

IT Engineering, Planning, Processing & Project Activity (30%):

  • Work with other groups within the organization to develop and implement migration and upgrade plans for servers, workstations, and applications; to include project plans, task lists, timelines, deployment plans, and rollback procedures. (E)

  • Work with other groups within the organization to roll out new products, services, and operational tools. (E)

Miscellaneous (10%):

  • Establish group subject matter expertise in infrastructure platforms and participate in knowledge transfers with team members. (E)

  • Participate in professional development activities to continually improve skills and knowledge in the areas of, IT services and member support. (E)

  • Other responsibilities as needed.

Skills You Have

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.

  • At least five (5) years systems/software support in a business environment with a comprehensive knowledge of software applications.

  • At least two (2) years prior experience in managing and supporting Windows Server systems (preferably Server 2012r2 and newer)

  • At least two (2) years prior experience working with and troubleshooting end-user issues

  • Experience administering Active Directory and Group Policy Objects

  • Experience with PowerShell scripting and TCP/IP networking concepts

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels within the organization

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience administering DNS, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), virtualized server environments such as VMware or HyperV, network monitoring/analysis tools such as Nagios or Zenoss, and databases (Oracle, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, etc.)

  • Experience with Puppet, MCollective, AMQP/STOMP messaging platforms (RabbitMQ), Ruby, Perl, Python

  • Experience using source code control systems (Git, SVN, Bitbucket, etc.)

  • Experience administering and troubleshooting Linux servers

We are posting at the Intermediate level, but we will consider filling it at the Associate level depending on your qualifications, experience, and education. The Associate level is a non-exempt position, and the salary range of $60,000-$75,000 does not apply at the associate level. Your salary will be determined by your qualifications, experience, and education.
