Job Summary

The Director of Information Technology and Facilities (DITF) in the College of Design coordinates and implements strategies outlined by the Director of Design Technology (DDT). The DIT is the central point of contact for all technology-related issues, he or she will be responsible for creating an effortless environment that fosters experimentation and discovery with computation, technology, and robotics. The Director will partner with the DDT and faculty to write curriculum, facilitate classes, and provide continuing education on the College’s most used hardware and software. The DITF will create a repository of student and research projects derived from the College studios, projects and research across all disciplines. As technology issues often intersect with facilities concerns, the DITF will also oversee all facilities and equipment issues within all buildings occupied by the College of Design, and will be responsible for oversight of equipment and space inventories.

As the steward of the College of Design’s finite technical resources, the DIT will leverage the capabilities of the University of Kentucky by utilizing established enterprise-class hardware and cloud computing offerings. Further, he or she will ascertain these solutions are easy and accessible and further the core mission of the College.

This position will help ensure that the College retains accreditation in all programs, provides specialized computer resources to design students, and remains in compliance with university technology initiatives. Reports to Director of Design Technology (for curricular, workshop, and computer aided laboratory issues) and to the Dean (for College-wide technical support issues).

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

In-depth knowledge of PC/MAC systems, network technology, CAD and other design and fabrication-related software; web software, including WordPress and Drupal and basic coding; research methods, assessment, communication skills, and reporting.

Preferred Education/Experience

Master or equivalent terminal degree in a design-related field. Current design-related software and hardware knowledge.
