Information Technology Specialist
 

George Mason University, University Life Technology Services invites applications for an Information Technology Specialist position. As a member of the University Life Technology Services team, this position will serve multiple departments within the division of University Life, however its primary responsibility will be to provide IT services for Student Health Services. The Information Technology Specialist will provide IT support for Student Health Services’ medical software system and will work to maintain confidentiality and security for all patient information. This position will ensure that all desktops and systems are properly patched and maintained. The Information Technology Specialist will also serve as the subject matter expert for all departmental software packages. 
 

This position will further serve on the University Life Technology Services team, will collaborate on division projects and will adhere to University and Departmental standards for security and standards. 
 

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for all systems and components of Student Health Services

  • Ensure security, industry compliance, and proper maintenance of all health systems.

  • Oversee and maintain desktop operating systems and enterprise systems managed by the department

  • Verify systems by conducting system audits and reviews

  • Design, develop, and implement policies and procedures for systems and process

  • Maintain organization’s effectiveness and efficiency by defining, delivering, and supporting strategic plans for implementing information technologies

  • Ensure successful completion of projects through coordination of departmental resources and timetables

  • Serve on the University Life Technology Services team, assisting with division projects and initiatives 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Understanding of information technology best practices and concepts

  • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced desktop support processes and network concepts

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including technical writing skills with the ability to present to a diverse group of users

  • Ability to map user requirements to information technology implementation plans

  • Strong problem solving and communication skills required

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, diverse environment

  • Ability to multitask, problem-solve, be detailed-oriented, and manage competing priorities

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience managing HIPAA-compliant systems
