The College of Enginerring, Media Services department is seeking an IT Support Associate.

This position will interact daily with faculty, staff and students to provide direct on-site problem solving and extensive troubleshooting in the many IT facets of the College. Utilizing the College IT helpdesk system, this position will be responsible for initial assessment, triage, research and utilization of supporting tools to efficiently come to a resolution for incidents and requests.  The position is also responsible for the development, implementation, documentation and maintenance of our Active Directory environment, new software and infrastructure upgrades, client computer hardware and software applications, A/V multimedia and video conference systems, and networking and IT security. Lastly, this position will develop web applications utilizing our LAMP stack or other client/server-side scripting languages.

Duties:

Computer Infrastructure / Information Systems:

  • Work closely with IT Director to provide recommendations on computer hardware and software for planning and budgeting and maintaining production change control schedule and software licensing/maintenance agreements

  • Perform computer infrastructure upgrades and new software installs, evaluate and install patches, monitor system performance and resolve related problems; plan, test and schedule upgrades

  • Imaging/Reimaging computers to deploy programs to new computers and update applications on existing computers

  • Diagnose and resolve problems, questions and inquiries encountered by faculty/staff via phone, email, appointments or walk-ins

  • Maintain RT support ticket system and distribute helpdesk requests to supporting IT staff

  • Responsible for initial assessment, triage, research and utilizing supporting tools to efficiently resolve support ticket incidents and requests; documents resolution

  • Provide basic computer training and conduct training seminars on UIC or COE specific services and applications

  • Provide training and support to faculty/staff on the use of Qualtrics and Webtools to create customize surveys, forms, and newsletters.

Active Directory / Network Services / IT Security / Backup:

  • Manage and secure Windows Active Directory environment, configure auditing and document procedures

  • Create, configure and maintain Active Directory GPOs and update policies as required

  • Configure, maintain and troubleshoot wired/wireless infrastructure in collaboration with campus IT resources to ensure reliable network performance

  • Setup VPN/RDP access to provide staff the ability to connect remotely to computers and securely access UIC resources

  • Under the guidance of the IT Director, implement UIC Security Program procedures

  • Maintain and deploy IT security training videos to all COE faculty and staff Setup

  • Setup CrashPlan backup services on staff computers, monitor CrashPlan panel to insure daily backup are performed, troubleshoot when backup fails and perform data recovery as needed

Web Developer / Programmer:

  • Develop and maintain web applications utilizing LAMP stack or other client/server-side scripting languages

  • Utilize GIT version control system for tracking changes and coordinating work on files with GA students

  • Run specific selected queries on phpMyAdmin and provide details to faculty/staff.

A/V Multimedia & Video Conference Technician:

  • Support and maintain A/V multimedia equipment and lecture capture systems in COE conference rooms and classrooms

  • Work with A/V vendors to evaluate new cutting edge products as well as troubleshoot and resolve issues with current systems

  • Transport and setup portable Polycom system and initiate conference call for faculty/staff

  • Assist faculty/staff on conducting WebEx audio and/or video conferencing.

Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required

  1. High School Graduation or equivalent

  2. Minimum 1 year professional IT Support Services, which includes demonstrated experience providing end-user technical and troubleshooting support with computer hardware,  software and classroom technologies within desktop and networking environments via, telephone, ticketing systems and/or onsite resolution.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering/Information Technology or related field.

  • Certifications or other technical experiences and training related to IT support a plus
