General Summary

Under the general supervision of higher level personnel, an employee at this level is responsible for providing expertise on data acquisition, management, and report creation and distribution to administration and other University colleagues, as well as external organizations. The role of this individual includes participation in education/training of individuals on data usage and interpretation, including the adherence to FERPA and FOIA and other legal restrictions, as well as University policies. Daily queries are created and/or modified to pull the information requested with accuracy and efficiency. This employee will maintain student program and plan data as it impacts admission, registration, and financial aid as well as federal reporting. The individual will assist with the submission of degree and enrollment files to the National Student Clearinghouse as well as resolving resulting errors. The employee identifies, analyzes, and documents business requirements and translates those requirements to system/functional requirements. The employee analyzes and refines business processes in both the current state and future state. This individual will have strong technical skills, business intelligence, and effective communication skills.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree (verify with transcript, may be unofficial)
  2. Two (2) years of professional work experience with queries, validating outputs, troubleshooting systems, and resolving discrepancies with the data.
  3. Experience working within a student information system, preferably People Soft Campus Solutions.
  4. Excellent organizational and analytical skills to assist in data output verification and troubleshooting
  5. Business background and data mining/query experience
  6. High proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  7. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  8. Ability to communicate policies effectively and politely on the telephone, email, and in person.
  9. Ability to work under pressure yet maintain and express a positive attitude.
  10. Ability to work in an environment with many distractions and interruptions
  11. If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.  

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Two (2) years of experience specifically querying student data and troubleshooting student data discrepancies
  2. Experience working with SQL Developer, PeopleSoft Query Manager, and IBM Cognos
  3. A general understanding of Illinois State University catalog policies regarding curriculum, academic/program requirements, and degree requirements

Hiring Rate/Range: $16.70 - $21.71/hour

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

1. Ability to effectively communicate on a daily basis.

2. Ability to work for extended periods at computer workstation.

3. Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small objects.

4. Ability to, various times, lift boxes weighing approximately 35 lbs. And either carry or push the boxes approximately 12 feet to the distribution area.
