The Academic Computing and Communications Center (ACCC) is seeking an IT Technical Associate (Word Press Developer).  Under general supervision, this position will develop in WordPress including creating themes and plugins. Position requires a combination of programming skills (namely PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript) and design aesthetics (understanding element arrangements on the screen). Responsible for adaptive design and an understanding of the web development processes, to include: architecture, development, and deployment.

The Academic Computing and Communications Center is an agile organization, with a collaborative and team centered environment that provides IT leadership, academic technology infrastructure and services at University of Illinois at Chicago. We excel at supporting 40,000 staff, faculty and students across a diverse and comprehensive university in the heart of Chicago. Our services include campus wide networking, teaching and learning, identity and access management, communications, research computing, IT security, application development, web services, compliance and more.

 

Key Responsibilities / Duties:

20%  Design, install, configure, manage and maintain new features and functionality in WordPress.

20%  Establish, document, and guide WordPress architecture.

20%  Responsible for performance, availability, and technical aspects of the content management system.

20%  Help formulate effective and responsive designs. Turn designs into a working theme and plugin. Include technical and user-facing documentation on customized themes.

10%  Provide tier 2/3 client support by answering questions both verbally and in written form about WordPress.  Work with unites/colleges to determine, document, and fulfill their business needs.

10% Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor Degree within Computer Science, Information Management or similar discipline.
  2. A minimum of 1 year IT Web Development which includes demonstrated experience in developing and/or modifying new and existing applications, including requirement analysis, design, code, test, debug, implementation and maintenance.
  3. Demonstrated experience with WordPress Architecture and PHP development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications.
  • Experience with debugging tools.  
  • Demonstrated experience understanding of code versioning
  • Understanding of PHP back-end development
  • Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML) CSS knowledge
  • Agile/SCRUM methodology knowledge

All civil service positions require an exam.  The exam for this position is a Credentials Assessment. You will not be required to report in person for this exam.

Credential Assessment Exam Scoring Information:

You will not be required to report in person for this exam. The updated online application and all uploaded, relevant documents, such as a resume and/or college transcript will be used in the calculation of the exam score. These documents should be uploaded prior to the position close date.
