Position Summary:

Prince William Sound College in Valdez Alaska is seeking an Information Technology Technician to provide services in the areas of networking, desktop/ computing support, and Audio/Video teleconferencing. This is a full-time, benefited position.

Duties:

Communication and Collaboration: Participate in IT related strategic planning efforts such as committees and work groups. Work collaboratively with technical staff at the college as well as across the university system. Maintain relationships with colleagues at UAA IT Services. Participate in Daily Status Report (DSR), and Change Advisory Board (CAB) sessions hosted by UAA IT Services for the purpose of communicating technical activities, outages, anomalies as well as advising local staff of enterprise technical service efforts, projects and scheduled/emergency outages.

Documentation: Assist in managing an inventory lifecycle and replacement plan for PWSC computing assets. Ensure inventory tracking documentation is current. Create and manage equipment purchasing and disposal records. Document work efforts utilizing an online work ticket tracking system. Document passwords, processes, contact information, and other relevant information to preserve institutional knowledge for future reference.

Desktop/ Computing Support: Work collaboratively with UAA IT Services to provide technical support for computer hardware and software applications for PWSC employee workstations, computer labs, classrooms, etc. Troubleshoot and support hardware and software needs for desktop computers, laptops, tablets, mobile devices, printers, etc. Adhere to security best practices, ensuring systems are regularly patched and virus signatures are current. Decommission systems according to current security practices. Ensure that vendor maintenance agreements are current. Respond to service requests related to PWSC hardware and software support with a high level of professionalism. Provide end user training in group or individual settings.

Networking: Work collaboratively with UAA IT Services to ensure PWSC network connectivity is functioning efficiently and securely. Troubleshoot and support networking needs including active directory, door lock systems, file servers, print servers, VM, VoIP, and more. Complete desktop imaging and software installation using recommended systems and processes including GPOs and SCCM. Set up WiFi routers. Respond to service requests related to PWSC networks with a high level of professionalism

Audio/Video teleconferencing: Purchase, deploy, and support audio visual equipment in classrooms and workstations. Set up IT equipment for events and meetings. Train and support users with operating conferencing software.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of Intel hardware and peripheral equipment. Working knowledge of Apple hardware and peripheral. Demonstrated experience with Windows OS, Apple OS, iPhones, iPads and Microsoft Office Applications. Extensive skills in providing desktop computer support in a professional environment. Skills in using SCCM preferred. Customer service skills required.

Required Experience:

1 year college coursework in a relevant field (i.e. Information Technology or other related field) and 2 years experience providing desktop computer support in a professional environment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
