Roycemore School seeks an Innovation Coach and Teacher for the 2020-2021 school year. Now in its 104th year, Roycemore is a highly regarded, co-educational independent school for students from 3 years old through 12th grade. Located in Evanston, Illinois, on the north side of Chicago, Roycemore enjoys a long-standing relationship with Northwestern University including the Northwestern option, where high school students can choose to take college courses at the University as dual-enrolled students for no additional charge.

Position
We are currently seeking an experienced Innovation Coach and Teacher for the 2020-2021 school year. The person in this position will:

  1. work with faculty and students in all three divisions of the school to advance making and innovation

  2. manage maker equipment, spaces, and curriculum

  3. working with administration, plan future maker and innovation initiatives

  4. teach technology/maker classes

  5. teach 1-2 other classes as assigned (most likely math and computer science)

Essential Functions

  • Designs and teaches lower, middle, and upper level technology/maker classes, including creating curriculum, scope and sequence, and integration with core subjects

  • Designs and teaches middle or upper school class (most likely middle school math)

  • Manages the use of maker equipment, including 3D printers, laser engravers, woodworking equipment, and other items

  • Contributes to decision-making related to new maker equipment and spaces

  • Develops enthusiasm for making among faculty and students through professional development, training, co-teaching, developing resources, and other creative means

  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and students to promote making and use maker equipment

  • Serves as a middle school P3 (personal passion project) coach and upper school JST (January Short Term) sponsor

  • Maintains student attendance records, grades, and other required records

  • Evaluates and grades students’ class work, assignments, and papers

  • Uses effective class management techniques to ensure effective learning

  • Sponsors a student club and/or coaches an athletic team

  • Serves as an adviser to 10-14 students, guiding them in academic, extracurricular, social and personal development and acting as primary liaison to parents/ guardians

  • Maintains expertise in subject matter through professional development and professional learning network

  • Performs other duties as assigned by administration

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in subject area required; a Master’s degree preferred

  • A minimum of three years teaching experience, preferably in an independent school environment

  • Experience teaching middle or upper level math (preferred)

  • Enthusiasm for making, problem-solving, and innovation in a school setting

  • Exact classes taught will vary from year to year and could include: technology/making (all levels), middle and upper school math, science, and/or computer science

  • Excellence in classroom management techniques

  • Enthusiasm for professional development

  • Ability to work with the Director of Curriculum and Innovation as well as the mathematics and science departments to assess which courses are most needed and adapt teaching to meet the needs of the school

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to interface and communicate effectively with students, parents and other staff members

  • Experience with G-Suite (Google Apps) for Education (preferred)

  • Strong passion for teaching & commitment to student learning & development

  • Committed to curriculum design and growth

  • Enthusiasm for embracing the independent school model of mentoring, advising and supporting students outside the classroom

  • Embraces authentic assessment, innovative pedagogies, and project-based learning

  • Comfortable using online texts, iPads, student information system, and other computer systems

  • Able to use basic office equipment
