Innovation, Engineering and Computer Science Teacher

Our Middle School has approximately 175 students and 32 faculty and staff. Our Middle School’s educational philosophy sets us apart from other schools. Fifth grade boys and girls learn together in small groups, while grades six through eighth grade students learn in single gender classes. The Middle School curriculum includes an emphasis on experience-based learning: students participate in hands-on projects and intensive class discussions that help build critical and creative thinking skills.

SUMMARY:
The Masters School seeks a flexible, creative educator who can inspire and motivate young people to learn more about entrepreneurship, the design process, and computers. In a variety of classes and co- curriculars, this teacher will introduce students to a range of innovative practices and entrepreneurial skills, including design thinking, application creation/introductory coding, robotics and related concepts.

Ideal candidates will possess relevant, real-world experiences that support their ability to teach these classes and co-curriculars and an equally strong understanding of middle school students and how they learn. Additionally, ideal candidates will be energized by teaching in a student-centered school that values deep, experiential learning.

An entrepreneurial spirit, flexibility and a desire to build the IEC program alongside capable colleagues is a must. The nature and scope of this role is likely to evolve with this growing program. To that end, ideal candidates will be willing to participate in trainings/classes in a variety of subjects/skills and must be excited by the prospect of ongoing professional growth, including during the summer months. 

Candidates must also be able to build strong relationships with students and teachers.
Individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion, within and outside the classroom, including a specific focus on ensuring students of all genders and backgrounds excel in STEM disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach IEC classes and a range of co-curriculars in the Middle School and possibly year-long minor courses in the Upper School

• Attend Middle School faculty meetings and IEC department meetings

• Participate in the life of the school by attending full group activities including morning meeting, student presentations and performances, and culminating events

• Contribute to the IEC program by attending departmental activities and events, as required

Qualifications

• Understanding of and desire to work with middle and upper school students

• Proven ability to communicate with students, parents and colleagues to build community and support student learning, including excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students

• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and to work independently

• Interest in and aptitude for building new programs/classes/learning experiences

• Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency

• A general knowledge of Computer Software and/or Computer Science

Educational Background and Work Experience

• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in business, education or related fields; Masters degree, preferred

• Prior experience with middle school and/or high school students

• Familiarity with and willingness to explore student-centered pedagogical approaches, preferred

• Professional experience in business, finance and/or professional STEM fields, preferred
