Westlake Christian School, a National Blue Ribbon School and the premier private school in northern Pinellas County, is seeking highly motivated, engaged, and passionate Innovation Laboratory/Makerspace Director for the 2019-2020 school year. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about emerging technologies and hold a strong understanding of education and how to incorporate relevant technologies into an educational Makerspace setting.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to articulate the Biblical worldview and demonstrate that he/she is a 21st Century educator who embraces current best practices. Candidates should possess a desire to grow within a professional learning community and be enthusiastic about teaching and learning. Candidates should exhibit a passion for teaching and working with children and uphold the highest standards of excellence professionally and personally. Candidates should be willing to collaborate with staff members and families and operate as reflective practitioners.

The Director will be responsible for:

  • The development of a new program in collaboration with the faculty and administration;

  • The equipping of our new space to support program objectives;

  • The scheduling and training of faculty to participate in program activities;

  • Assorted additional responsibilities to be discussed in the interview process.

Selection Criteria:

  • Proficient in integrating the Biblical worldview into instruction
  • Experienced in managing an innovation laboratory/makerspace

  • Experienced in integrating STEM into subject-area education

  • Experienced in teaching technology

  • Proficient in the use and integration of technology in the classroom, including SMART Board technology

  • Values differentiated instruction

  • Knows and applies knowledge of current professional literature and best practices

  • Articulates an understanding of the development of children from kindergarten through eighth grade

  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Exhibits strong problem-solving skills

  • Shows skill and sensitivity in working with all members of the school community

  • Willing to contribute regularly to school community activities

  • Post-graduate degree preferred
